Antenna

So my car has a really annoying antenna on the trunk. It's not "screwable" so I can't just unscrew it. Is there an easy way to remove it? I'd like the option to put it back someday, but is there a surefire easy way?

Also, if pics are required, I'll get some tomorrow morning.

I thought you were getting rid of that boat pretty soon? Ripping off the antenna is just going to lower the resale value.

I'm not familiar with the car so I can't say. But you do know you need that for the radio don't you? They don't work that great without it.
You could tie it to a tree and drive off fast.

Is this a retractable motorized antenna?  If so you will need either some snapring pliers or a special tool to remove the chrome nut holding it on. From there you just tug gently till the long nylon lead that moves it around comes all the way out.  Watch it, it will whip you in the face if you're not wary (know this from experience, lol).

It's not retractable. It's stationary and double the height of the whole freaking car.

I have the tool required to remove the nut, but what would you put there instead?

Is there a way I can remove the antenna but leave that "stub" thing there so there wouldn't be a hole?

True reason: I saw an adhesive euro-style antenna for $4.99 at Crappy Tire that I want to stick on.

This, essentially.

Take a pic of the thing, there MAY be a way to remove just the mast.

Also, are you guys able to tell if my rotors need replacing from this pic?

edit: Yes my wheels are dirty because of a huge rainfall. I'm going to wash the thing tomorrow.

Champ

You need to measure the thickness of rotors to determine replacement.  The surface looks fine there.

Champ

Your antenna looks like it screws out, there are flat spots on the base of it that you can use to turn it.

heelntoe

yeah. take some pliers and try to unscrew it.

It does appear that the mast unscrews, but I would use a wrench, you'll mark the hell out of it with pliers.

Raza

The Passat's antenna is pretty big, but it screws off by hand and you can buy something smaller to replace it.  I would do that, were I keeping the car.

7 or 8MM combination wrench is all you need mate. Just wrap a small piece of electrical tape over it first to keep from marking it.  Try to cover the little nub with something to keep it from rusting, so that when you put the antenna back on someday it will actually go on.

As for the brakes, Champ is right you can only tell by micrometer whether they need replacement or not.

Can't you see the logical spot there?  The flat spot on each side.  So outside the trunk.
