Ever heard the saying, "Never judge a book by it's cover?"  Same applies to brakes.  Been bit too many times just eyeballing things through a wheel.

That's true...
It just looks a bit shiny instead of that dull surface it's supposed to look like.

A nice uniform slightly brown color is probably most desireable.  Could be that his OEM pads are glazing a bit.  But that can be taken care of by simply turning the rotors.  That's where the micrometer comes in handy to make sure it CAN be turned.  After that some good pads like Hawks would do the trick without the glazing.

Just unscrew it, and you can get shorter replacements on ebay.   I got one in black for like $15 to replace the tall stock antenna.
