But it's huge for a sedan with a 4 banger.  Find me another sedan that weighs that much with a 4 cylinder engine.
Ford Taurus - 3650 lbs (V6)
Toyota Camry - 3307 lbs (4 banger)
Chevrolet Impala - 3555 lbs (V6)
Hyundai Azera - 3629 lbs (V6)
Ford Fusion - 3158 lbs (4 banger)
Ford Fusion - 3280 lbs (V6)

The only large sedan that weighs less that I could find is the Ford Fusion.  I didn't realize it was so light.  It's too bad Ford didn't make it sportier with that weight.

You know, if large sedans can weight so little, why the hell do performance cars weigh so much nowadays?

the Teuton

Mind you, I know the Accord is a bigger car than a lot of them, but it's being powered by a 4 cylinder.  While 200 hp is nothing to sneeze about, it's the torque I'm concerned with in the weight class.
2. 1995 Saturn SL2 5-speed, 126,500 miles. 5,000 miles in two and a half months. That works out to 24,000 miles per year if I can keep up the pace.

That 3300# was for the barest version I could find.  The EX-L 4dr Sedan w/Navigation (2.4L 4cyl 5A) weighs 3,446#.  And the Accord is classed as a midsized sedan

It doesn't look near as upscale as the current car

Oh boy. And I absolutely hate the looks of my Accord.

Technically, the Accord is Large now.  IIRC the interior volume is about 0.1 cu.ft. over the minimum for large car classification.

Well, remember that the Chevy Malibu Maxx is also classified as a large car by interior volume standards.

The new Accord, though, is just 2 inches shy in overall length compared to the Chrysler 300 :tounge:

ifcar

The Sonata is also large by interior volume standards, and the Elantra is midsize.

I think 6 gen base Accords are 2700... Hard to believe it gained so much weight.

Then Edmunds got it wrong.  They still class it as a midsized car.  Regardless its not very good looking IMHO.

Few non-government auto authorities use the EPA size classification.

It's 3-4 inches longer and bigger in every dimension and heavier thant he 2007.  Turning radius is almost 2 feet larger also.  Stripper 4 Cyl manuals are tipping the scales at about 3300 pounds

Really, I saw one parked right next to an '07 at the Honda dealer and it really didn't seem that much larger. The turning radius is definitely a bummer though.

ifcar

Of course, while 3 inches is a significant increase by automotive standards, it's still a difference you can measure with your thumb and forefinger.

They pay lip service to fuel economy, low-emissions and environmental friendliness, while designing and offering ever-bigger cars.

Not good news if you are looking far a family sedan that has a little bit of a fun-to-drive spark.

The RL is a midsize sports sedan, what's wrong with the Accord being almost identical in size?

Well... it has morphed into a bit of a big, fat porker, regardless of official classification. I suppose Honda calculates that most people now want plenty of room inside for junk food bags and 64oz mega-freezie drinks, rather than chuck light, agile cars into corners.

Keen drivers must look elsewhere for a mainstream family sedan. Honda already has one in the form of the Euro-spec Accord/Acura TSX. Guess they need to decontent the Acura and stick back on the Honda badge.

I agree. This should have been the Acura Legend (perhaps with SH-AWD and whatnot) and the Euro Accord should have also been the US Accord.

No, that would have made it a sales flop.

Why?

Because people who buy family sedans in this country want roomy, comfortable cars? Why do you think the Camry always outsells the Accord?
