I think (and hope) the raised suspension look is just because it's parked on the lawn at a funny angle.  Then again, the ad does mention it has new shocks.  Did they fit the high-lift ones from a 4X4 Jeep Cherokee by mistake, I wonder?

Yeah, there sure seems to be a glut of Yuppie-era Benzs out there.  Most look to be in good nick but I'm sure many of them are hiding a multitude of mechanical horrors underneath.  Luckily, I live in an area full of "Old-Money" types who only buy a new car every fifteen years or so.  As a result, there are lots of clean one-owner early-to-mid 90's Mercedes which haven't been crashed and thrashed by seven previous owners.  I'm hoping this is one of them.

Cheers,
Madman of the People

That's good; most of the ones here are hand-me-down cars given to kids when they first get their license, so instead of being crashed and trashed by several previous owners, they've been crashed and trashed by just one :tounge:

But lately, there have been more of the "old money" cars popping up for much more reasonable prices.

All Wheel Drive, just in time for winter.

This is one of those "almost too good to be true" ads.  It's a 1998 Volvo V70 AWD.  2.4 litre light-pressure turbo five cylinder (190 Horsepower) and automatic.  The features list is mile long; ABS, alloys, leather, sunroof, AM/FM/Cassette, fog lights, heated seats and roof rails.  And it's only $2,300!  Something's got to be wrong with it, right?  I mean, that's a giveaway price for a Volvo V70, especially one with All Wheel Drive and a boatload of equipment.  There's no mention of mileage, so it may have been driven to Mars and back.  Or it could have been in an accident and rebuilt.  Who knows?

So is it the deal of the year or a mechanical time bomb waiting to explode?  You never can tell.  But that's the fun of Shed Hunting!  I could call the selling dealer, but I'm sure they're not going to admit too much over the phone.  Still, it does look to be an intriguing proposition.  Hmmmmmmmm.

Cheers,

Finally, a manual gearbox!

For those of you who have been begging me to post a manual shed (you know who you are) here it is.  A 1999 Mercury Cougar 2.0 Zetec with power operated everything, keyless entry, CD player, new brakes and tyres.  With only 120,000 miles and a price tag of only $2,999, this looks like seriously good value for money.

What's not to like?  It fairly roomy for a two-door coupe, the 2.0 litre engine is reasonably thrifty and the styling still looks fresh even today.  Okay, Washing Machine White is probably not the best colour on this car but it's not terrible either.  Silver would have been so much better, though.  I find the 1999-2002 Cougar to be a very underrated car.  Fine by me, since the lack of kudos seems to keep the prices down.  Just don't tell anyone how good this car really is.  No point in spoiling it for the rest of us, right?  It will be our little secret.

The 900 is a POS. I said "almost" and I'd take the 740i over the Cougar.
Plus it's fairly new and doesn't have too many miles plus has 3 pedals.

hey! that sure brings back some memories...http://www.carspin.net/forums/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=51

You guys did ask for a stickshift car, so now you shall recieve :praise: although the car was woefully underpowered with the 4-cylinder, it was a pretty good gearbox at least. It drove pretty well, otherwise, though.

There's a whole bunch of 'em in Phoenix. I used to go there every chance I got.

In my mind it is. Take a look at a map of the US. California, Nevada, Arizona, and Utah make up a big chunk of land in the lower left hand corner of the map. There's a lot of space above you. Washington and Oregon put together almost make up a Cali-size territory. The northern border of California is sort of close to the middle of the country, if you were to draw a line through it.

Plus, you live around Sac, right? That's even further south. Maybe if you lived in Mendocino, or one of the other northernmost counties, I could let you get away with not being from the Southwest, but as it is, you're stuck.

Besides, no one from outside the state takes the time to seperate it like you weirdos :evildude:

They've got fries and shakes too, but I agree, it's kind of pointless to go there if you don't eat beef.

He's from the Bay Area if I remember correctly, which is even FURTHER south than Sacramento. Shit, it's just north of the Utah-Arizona border.

I wouldn't mind if Santa left this under my tree.

Is a nicely equipped 1995 Volkswagen Golf Cabrio.  2.0 litre, auto, ABS, alloys, cruise control, CD player, leather, and power everything.  Dealer's ad doesn't mention miles but the black paintwork appears okay and from what I can see of the left front tyre there appears to be plenty of tread.  At only $2,495 this should make a good commuter car.  Come springtime, fold back the roof and enjoy the brief spell of mild weather before another blazing hot summer arrives to fry anything that isn't indoors.
