They're surprisingly neutral cars.  It's all about how you flick it into a turn and on what kind of surface.
AWD cars, especially 50/50 biased ones are prone to understeer.

Shoot me any Protege questions you may have.  The '01+ ES is the one to get though.  It has better suspension, more creature comforts, 16" wheels, and the 2.0L engine.

They do have an equal torque split, I think? Well, this one, at least. I can agree on that.

All of the 5 speeds do, and when I play with mine in a gravel parking lot, I usually turn on the 50:50 button.  'Tis fun.

My car is cheaper to insure than a similar vintage Civic.  Trust me.  I don't know by how much, but it is.

It's a Toyota, so it's very reliable. Plus, only 10k on it. It's just very boring, and that's coming from ME!

if boring = rubbish, then WTF are you doing with a Camry and an Intrepid? :nutty:

my rental Camry is much more boring than my sister's 2005 Corolla. and slower, too.

Dude, the Camry was a gift. My mom uses it mostly now anyway, since she works full-time now.

The Trep's my baby. It's the first car I got with my own money and I got it in March 2006 with very low mileage VERY cheap.

Personally, I'm not looking for fun. I'm looking for price and reliablilty.

If you really care about price, you can go ahead and take newish Toyotas and Hondas off your list. As for reliability, Toyotas have problems too, ask Catman (his suv needed a new engine before it hit 5k). Also, to say that something is reliable because of its brand is perception, not fact.

One more thing, I'll repeat this over and over until maybe somebody actually gets it, don't try to figure out the insurance industry, it just won't happen. My Neon was more expensive to insure than both the much bigger Durango (and therefore capable of inflicting more damage) and the much sportier Prelude.

My point was that just because a car is boring doesn't mean it's "rubbish" (might be watching too much British car programmes, mate)

I enjoy lambasting the Camry out of good fun, but I do know that it has its strong points. Same with the Corolla.

And again, if boring = rubbish, then the Camry is literally a sea barge full of consumer waste

We had to rent a 2007 Corolla for a month (it had 70 kms on the Odo when we picked it up) and it was a POS.  I will never drive one of those again for as long as I live if I can help it.  It might be reliable but the interior was shit, the seat/pedal/steering wheel relationship was all wrong, and the seats were not very comfortable.  I hated it.

meh. The only complaint I have is that the steering wheel should telescope. Other than that, it beats using the s2000 to take a Vegas road trip. (I was faced with such a choice back when I had the s2k. I borrowed the Corolla :praise: )

Little known fact.  All Subarus since the 360 are flying cars, they just have to deactivate the flight controls when it rolls off the assembly line.  If you can get the right equipment, you can reactivate the latent programming and fly your Subaru faster than the Concorde.
