I'm not trying to rationalize anything.

Why don't you just drive the Ram?

Yes you are, otherwise this thread wouldn't exist, and you'd already have a Mustang.

These are what I'd buy for 10K

I'd throw a 180SX on the above list, they are now legal for importation in most of canada i do believe.

I will be driving it until the lease is up in March.  At that point I will be giving the truck back and buying a used car.  The truck was costing me $100 every 5 days in fuel alone so that's why I won't be keeping the truck after March.

Getting one won't kill you, owning one....well thats a different story.

I said "reliable".  I would love to own one of these cars but they are still very expensive around here and very fragile.

QuoteNissan 300ZX
Another car I would like to own, but all the 300ZX's in my province that are under $10K are either 16 years old or very high mileage.

QuoteWRX
An intriguing suggestion, however there is not a single one available in the entire province under $10K.

It's gonna end up being a compromise I think.  The newest and lowest mileage possible for under $9K so that I have $1K to play with for suspension and exhaust.

Ah-ha. That's the answer I was looking for.

Sounds like you want a Focus. :ohyeah:

A V8 Mustang would probably not be much of an improvement over a truck.

FlatBlackCaddy

not so 280, i'm sure mustangs are like maro's and vettes. 30+ mpg on the highway, etc.

In real world 50/50 city/highway i'm sure it will be just as bad as the truck unless hemi drives like an old lady.

Bottom line is if you value performance than you sacrifice MPG. I don't care about how many fantasy stories i hear about mid 30 tanks in a vette/camaro, it just isn't the norm.

EPA on an LS1 Corvette is 28, and GRM stated that they've gotten over 30 many times.

Thats special, and hypermilers get 60MPG out of a base accord.

The point is simple, even though many cars are capable of more the typical driver will get between the EPA estimates(old ratings) and anyone with a heavy foot and spirited driving will get worse MPG.

I'm sure i could get 40MPG out of a camaro, realistically during normal driving with some spirited backroads it would drop to the low 20's. Thats the norm, mid 30's on freeway trips at 1500 rpms is not.

Anyone who loves driving should be able to table it for a commute.

That's the snobby way of saying that you can drive economically for a commute if you want to get good mileage out of your fast car. ;)

I certainly never found that to be the case, and still don't, even with the boring truck. Whenever I drive, I do so as fast as is prudent (so to say).

My last Mustang got 27 mpg on a regular basis on the highway and that's what 95% of my commute will be.  In the city it was a little better then my Ram but not much, but that was also because it had 400 hp.  Before I modded it, the mileage was better.  My Ram gets 15 mpg on the highway and 12 in the city so a Mustang would be a dramatic improvement.

The point of this thread was to see if there was anything I didn't think about and there was.  After reviewing those options and investigating prices and what I could get for the money, the Mustang still came out on top.  Show me where I was wrong.

Something is wrong here.  This price can't be right.
