I might test drive this to see how I feel about an auto Mini - at least it's a 6 speed auto and not the old CVT.

An automatic in a Mini even looks wrong.

I wonder how Mini is doing these days. I don't see them as frequently as I used to.

My GF would probably prefer an auto. I've taught her the basics of driving a manual, but it's just a chore to her.

Oh, it's for her? If she likes it better, then that's fine.

It'd mainly be my car during the winter and a shared car during the rest of the year.

She'd be happy with a red Corolla. I figure even an auto Mini is a big step up from that.

Go with the Corolla. MINIs are comically unreliable.

I test drove it. I was expecting a driving experience more like our old VW, just more solid and with A/C. Instead, it drove basically the same as my E46, just not quite as fast. I was somewhat disappointed with that - figured the turbo would help it a lot at this altitude. The automatic transmission was quite good and I liked the paddle shifters. I think it only turned 3k rpm at 90 mph. But that tall gearing might be why it wasn't as fast I hoped. A stickshift might be better.

Man, I hope I never get to the point in my life where I have to drive an automatic because someone else won't drive a manual.

Stay single.  I could've had a Boss 302 instead of the Mach I.

Either that or earn enough money so the person in your life who won't drive manual will have his or her own car.

Just because you know how to drive it doesn't mean you care for it.

I'm fine with autos anyway.

Depends. People are either eager to or dread it like you're asking them to eat a bag of toenails.
Maybe we need to start off small. I mean, they don't let you fuck the glumpers at Glumpees without a level 4 FuckPass, do they?

In either case, do they freak out when they accidentally launch hard? Or when they stall out??  Do they take criticism or instruction ok?

Depends on who's teaching them.

Most adults don't want to be forced to learn something they really don't care about...that's a recipe to make anyone crabby.

I'm probably gonna test drive a Sonic hatchback soon. Used Civics and Corollas just don't seem like good values compared to a Chevy/Ford.

I need to figure out how to tell if a Sonic has the 1.8 or 1.4T
