When I was shopping for replacement wheels for my truck I saw a lot of ads for wheels with old cracking tires stating plenty of tread left. The tread is useless if the sidewalls split open going down the road.

I should get an Elise. Perpetually $30-40k.

Why an Elise when you can get an Elan for about the same price...

There's a 1991 Taurus SHO for sale an hour from me for $6k.

Very hard to resist- but it would have to be parked outside, and we don't need four cars for two drivers.

Looks very clean, despite the 142K miles.  Even that driver's seat looks new!

$8,995 is a very good price, too.  I have no need for it, but I'm still very tempted....

4 banger with an accident, but would still be pretty nice if maintenance costs aren't crazy.

Yeah, I saw the minor damage to the rear on the CarFax report.  Even if the whole rear bumper assembly had to be replaced, that's not a big deal.  It's not too far away from me.  I might even go take a look at it.

They're very handsome, but I just wouldn't want to deal with the extra expensive repairs.

The most expensive cars to repair/maintain are all from Europe. Easily known fact.

So, a few days ago, I was running errands and happened to be passing the dealership selling this car.  I had some time on my hands, so I thought I'd pop in to take a look.  Pulling in, I spotted the car immediately.  It was unlocked, so I had a good nose around it.  It's in VERY good condition and appears to have been well cared for.

The leather on the driver's seat looks to have had a repair done at some point...

It's not bad enough to put me off.  Besides, I know a really good upholstery guy if it ever needed done properly down the road.

The driver's door window switches have the typical German paint flaking issue...

Much to my surprise, you can get the entire replacement switch panel from eBay for under $20.00.

The screen perched on top of the dash looks like it would be a touch-screen, but it isn't.  You have to use the rotary controller on the console.  For a technological luddite such as myself, this is the one thing which I think I would struggle the most to get accustomed.

Yes, a CD player!  I'm old and I still like to occasionally to listen to CDs.  And I don't want to bother with whatever magic voodoo it is you need to do to transfer my music to whatever technological format is in fashion this month.

A nice surprise inside the trunk was a set of fancy Mercedes Benz branded moulded plastic floormats!  A not-so-nice surprise is Mercedes thought it was a terrific idea not to provide owners with a spare wheel or a jack.  Boo!   Looks like I'd have to hunt down a spacesaver, were I to buy this car.

I was intrigued enough to take a brief test drive and the car drove like new.  The saleslady was very pleasant and put no pressure on me to "BUY NOW!!!"  I was upfront with her about not being in any urgent need for a car at the moment.  She was very accommodating and gave me an out-the-door price.

When I mentioned this to the wife, she questioned why I needed a third car.  "Well, I don't.  But, It's really nice and it's a good deal!"  Let's just say she wasn't swayed by my logic!  Keep in mind, in addition to my two cars, she has her own car.  If anyone has any suggestions as to how I can convince her we need a fourth car, please let me know!

Lol sorry man, I got nothing.

I had chance to buy my dream car awhile back and couldn't justify it enough to myself to even try to talk the wife into it.

Sans AWD, a 2016 Civic is a superior vehicle; plus, from a used car dealer and 142,000 miles, this thing is risky AF.

But, we all have our automotive fetishes.

I really need to stop perusing Autotempest during moments of boredom at work.  This is only going to end with me spending silly money on things I don't need.  Oh well, as the cool kids say, you only live once!
