I know the Corvette is probably a ringer, but these cars are all within $10,000 of each other.  Which one would you pick not as a weekend car, but a daily driver?
2. 1995 Saturn SL2 5-speed, 126,500 miles. 5,000 miles in two and a half months. That works out to 24,000 miles per year if I can keep up the pace.

I don't care about all that shit.  I'll be going to college to get an education at a cost to my parents.  I'm not going to fool around.

Rag, you'd pick the Elise as a daily driver?  It'd suck to be you.

Oh, you bastards. Stop making polls which are simply impossible for me to choose a lone option.

I've narrowed it down to either the Corvette or the 135i.

It's that tough of a decision?  Do you guys get the Vette in Australia, and is it a Chevy or is it sold under the Holden umbrella?

We don't get the Corvette as a factory model, alas. If it was to be sold here, it would probably be marketed as a marque of its own; as a Corvette, rather than a Chevrolet Corvette. That said, there is a company in Queensland that imports, converts and sells the Corvette range as a Chevrolet (as well as Mustangs, Hummers, GMCs, and Chevrolet trucks).

Performax International

I am, of course, reduced to a spluttering, dribbling mess when confronted by glorious American cars. Who am I kidding? I don't need sensible German cars. I'll take the Corvette.

Since when was 40-50 grand pocket change?  Did the forum win a lottery payout that I don't know about?

I picked the Elise.  And yes, I would run one as a daily driver.  Then again, I once ran a Fiat X-1/9 as a daily driver so I guess that makes me a glutton for punishment?

BTW, those RHD conversions from Performax International are amazing.  They should set up shop in the UK.  They would make a mint there.  The Brits are always complaining they can't get Vettes, Hummers, Mustangs, etc in RHD.  Maybe GM should contract out conversion work for RHD markets to these guys since they can't be bothered to do it themselves.

I believe Viperformance, another Australian importer/converter, send Vipers to the UK every now and then.

From their website:

I thought this was going to be about cheap used supercars.  Pocket change, car-wise, is around 15 grand.

Personally, I'm torn.  The Boxster is probably the most practical of the two seaters, with the Corvette either equal or just behind.  It's also a better handler than the Corvette, no doubt, but the Corvette is just as fuel efficient and much more powerful.  But then again, power isn't that big of a deal.  Also then again, I already have a Boxster S, so it wouldn't make much sense for me to get another one for daily driving.  Considering the old STI got 23mpg under new EPA standards, I don't expect that the new one will get any better.  So if you have considerable distance or highway cruising, the STI doesn't make sense.  The Mustang GT matches the fuel economy of the STI, without being more practical, so that doesn't make sense.  I can't guess on the Evo's fuel mileage, as the new car has a new engine.  The BMW 335i gets 26mpg highway, so the 135i should get at least that, and be quite quick indeed.  Not as practical as the Evo or STI, but likely slightly more practical than the Boxster or Corvette, due at least to its back seats.  The Elise is awesome, the least practical, but it also gets the best gas mileage (27mpg under new EPA).

If you factor out highway driving, the STI makes the most sense.  If you factor it is, the 135i makes the most sense.  But the Corvette and Boxster remain highly desirable.  Tough decision.

STi for me.

Wonderful performance and utility for a daily driver. AWD for the winter months.

r0tor

if i'm only tracking it... its the elise
if i want the best dailer driver... i'd say the STi

the best mix of the two is probably the 135i

As a daily driven supercar, that 135i takes the cake. Now, if only they would make it into a shooting brake.
