BMW only has a 3.0L I6. The 535i is just a 3.0LTT I6.
The 545i was a 4.4L V8.

In the US, they only have 3.0L I-6's. Elsewhere, like the 323i in Canada, they have a 2.5L I-6, the N52B25.

In the US, the 6-cylinder BMW engines in use, currently are:
1. N54B30 (3.0L TT)
2. N52B30 (3.0L I-6, in the the _28i/xi. Also in the X3, X5 and Z4.)

Wrong! I'm leaning more towards a Lincoln Towncar actually.

I'm no old man, dammit!  I barely have the maturity of my 8 year old.  I just needed a little more room and came upon a deal I couldn't pass up.  If my wipers didn't seize up in Thursday's storm, I probably would never have bought this car.  I ended up killing a couple hours at the dealer waiting for the repair, and temptation reared its ugly head.  The B8 still looks very tempting at this point.  I can see after a year or two my Dad will take it and I'll grab the B8.  My options are open right now.  Maybe I'll get bought out by Bill Gates and I'll pick up an R8 with a MT in addition to the A6.  It could happen, you know! :mask:

Hehehe, that's a classic move for my dad as well.  More than once he's taken my mom's car to the dealer for tires or something else minor, and comes home with a brand new car for her.

I would rather have a 328i for similar money. They weigh about the same anyway. I would have a 320si over all, I agree.

Hah, that's taking impulse buying to a new level.... :ohyeah:

Women impulse buy shoes and dresses; men impulse buy cars, electronics and tools.  That's the difference between the sexes in a nutshell...

I'm famous for impulse buying electronics.  I bought my two big screen LCD TVs while I was waiting for a prescription to be filled at a drug store next door to the electronics store.  The joke my friends said about me was, "What can I do for 5 minutes?"
A good friend will come bail you out of jail...BUT, a true friend will be sitting next to you saying, DAMN...that was fun!

I guess it wasn't quite an impulse purchase since I'd been shopping for a car online for a couple months, but when I saw this A6, it was too good to pass up.  And when the dealer offered to pay out the last 2 lease payments in addition to coming down on the price, well you know - he who hesitates....

Out of all 6 cylinder BMW's I'd have the old 330i. 255 hp, but no turbos so it's lighter than the the 35 engine.

Out of all 6-cylinder BMW's, I'd have an E46 M3. Then again, there' the 3.0 CSL. And the M1, and the M635CSi, and the E34 M5. And the E36 M3. I can't pick.

How much heavier is the turbo engine? Your choice seems a bit odd.

Hmm...that's more than I thought it would be.

The turbos make the engine a gem, however. I wouldn't be able to pass up the temptation of incredible power at every point in the rev range.

That engine is SO worth it. It's fantastic. Oh man, if I bought a 3er, I wouldn't hesitate to go for the 335i.

Nice purchase Ron. I definitely like it in that color.
Thanks Matt!  I like the grey too.  I was hoping for Dolphin Grey but this one is Charcoal Grey - just a little lighter.  Might stay cleaner looking than the Dolphin though.  :ohyeah:

Wow, great choice saxonyron! The A6's are the best looking sedans from Audi IMHO (excl. "S" cars of course).

I think you'll be fine with the automatic for a couple of years. Once you get ready for a new car the B8 A4 will be available with new engines and a manual transmission. From what I've read, the interior size of the A4 should just about equal your new A6.

In any event I can't wait to hear more about the car once you've driven it for a bit. Hope everything works out for you when you go to pick it up.  :ohyeah:

All went well today, and the new ride is sitting in the driveway.   The dealer was great and kept to their word on all counts.  The holiday season is definitely a slow time of year for car salespeople, because I'm still amazed at the overall deal.  I mean, the car was already a loss leader at the asking price of 10% off Blue Book, but then they let me beat them down another $2k, plus pay $1,200 to me for my last 2 lease payments and do a $400 repaint of the A4's rear bumper that my work neighbor scratched up with his truck.  I even bought the Audi service plan where all routine service is paid for up to 75,000 miles (Basically almost $4,000 of service paid in advance for $1,280.) Overall a killer deal that I really didn't expect (which is why I was expecting some sort of a zinger tonight, but no surprises!  So I got a $51,000 car with 4,700 miles on it for $38,000, and it's got an Audi warranty to 100,000 miles.  Hmmmmm....there might be something to this CPO deal!

I can get used to this car real fast.  Performance, ride and handling really are incredible.  And the room is extravagant.  My 2 sons were beside themselves as we brought it home and cut up a few twisties.  Nice touches abound on the interior, like the cool blue-ish mood lighting along the upper door panels and footwells that you can adjust in intensity with the slick MMI control.  The Sport setting for the tranny is fairly addicting - it drops down 1-2 gears when you kick it in, and holds the gears right up to redline.  I took a couple pics in the driveway tonight. More to follow when it's not a) dark b) 14 degrees, and c) 9:00 and I hadn't eaten dinner yet.

Damn, you got a hell of a deal there!

Boy, I really did - I'm not complaining!  I saw this car as their loss leader in their website and told my wife  something to the effect of "Check this deal out!  Ridiculous!  Too bad they'll never run one like this when my lease is up in Feb."  Then they go and knock basically another three grand off, including paying the last 2 months and all the lease turn-in costs.  My lesson learned is to buy your car during the worst time of the dealer's year.  It really will save you thousands.  I'll bet it's around 10 to 15% less on average if you do your deal right.
