The TL non-S has all of those things you list without needless markup for a body kit and bigger wheels.

Isn't the non-S automatic transmission only?

No.

Somebody ought to tell that to Acura, then.  According to their site, non-S TLs are 5AT only.

The TL-S is actually quite good and definitely worth the price IMO, if you are looking for that kind of car (FWD luxory sedan with some sport thrown in).

It has a nicer interior than just about all the cars in the segment IMO and its gearbox is easily the best.  The Nav system also handily beats BMW, Infiniti, and Audi.  Plus, the thing is pretty loaded at that price, something that cannot be said for some of its competitors.

Has anyone here actually driven the car extensively other than me?

Vin owned one for a while.  And I didn't like it when I drove it.

Indeed. I liked my TL when I had it, but I like my CTS better.

I'm surprised the Type-S costs so much. I thought they were like $35k. $5,000 for 26 hp is worse than what BMW charges, I think.

For one, the type-s drives and is in general significantly better than the regular TL IMO, so people should keep that in mind.  The brakes, suspension, interior, and engine are all significantly different, so it is far from cosmetics.  Plus, it is available with an extremely sweet 6 speed gearbox.

It is honestly one of the best FWD sports sedans I have ever driven and is worth the extra dough over the regular TL.
Difficult takes a day, impossible takes a week.

I drove a model before the trim differentiation.  I wouldn't buy it over a TSX or even a Civic Si.

I would take a type-s over a TSX any day of the week.  To be honest, I have never been too impressed with that car.

The Si on the other hand is a completely different type of car.

That's new.

If Edmunds is to be believed, it was like that for '07 as well.

The non-type-s TL was available with a 6-speed MT until the type-s came out. Once the type-s came out the base model TL dropped the manual option.

I think his parents have one, in addition to the TSX.

After you wake up with the sun at 6am on someone's floor, coughing up cigarette butts and tasting like warm beer, you may well change your opinion on this matter.

It's my sister's BF's car, but he doesn't use it anymore after he got the Q7, especially in this crap weather. It's got summer tires on, and I had to pick up my sister from work near the airport today.. wtf x10.

edit: i think the TL 6MT was quite good, drove one like 2 years back as a loaner.

Funny you mention it, my dad was remembering our old '04 TL today. He remembered it with many memories of understeer. FWD+powerful V6=FAIL.
