Ultimate Aero Tops Veyron

It looks like the new Shelby SuperCars' Ultimate Aero just took the world record for fastest production vehicle.

It doesn't matter!! It'll never provide the refinement/safety of the Veyron.

More superlatives:
With 1,183 hp and 1,094 foot-pounds of torque, the Ultimate Aero's all-aluminum, twin-turbocharged V8 has more horsepower than any other street-legal production car, another record for which the company is applying.

The car also holds the best-recorded speed for navigating the slalom (73.1 mph), and bests all others in the ever-important weight-to-horsepower ratio (2.33). "A lot of people think that powerful, American supercars are only good at going straight, but our car will out-handle just about anything that you put next to it," Shelby says. "When Road & Track tested a pre-production version of our car, it broke the Ferrari Enzo's slalom course record. It will just take time to get the word out on how capable we are."

Because that's what's important when you're accelerating so hard you get tunnel vision.

Didn't it break the record something like 6 months ago? And while a Veyron can reliably hit 400 kph on any good straightaway, it took dozens of tries for the kitcar lookalike Aero to break the record.

If I'm going to go 250mph, I want to know that I will have at least a SLIGHT chance of surviving if I crash.

I would have no problem dieing in a crash going 250mph. At least I died doing something I love.

Yeah but you'd rather survive a crash at 250mph right?

Not necessarily. A crash at 250mph could (assuming you live) turn you into a vegetable. I would rather be dead than a vegetable. And what's so special about the veyron's safety equipment? It just has standard air bags and seat belts. I'd feel way safer in racing seats and harnesses and a roll cage. Additionally, if the veyron gives off the false sense that it is safer, people might take unnecessary risks trying to get to that speed. In this car, people probably will plan it for a special day, put on a fir suit and a helmet and make it as safe as possible.

Yes it did, and this has come up on another forum I post on also.  What news place is releasing this now?

I posted about this in September.

What's so great about the ring time anyways?  It's different days, different drivers, different conditions, and sometimes, different configurations too...

I'm not quite sure, this thing broke the record on an ordinary road(that was two miles long), the Veyron's top speed runs have all been on tracks which I imagine are meticulously maintained, at least in comparison to a highway. Not saying the Veyron can't hit 253 on the same road, just that it hasn't yet.

Well, it probably scared the crap out of the drivers, with wheelspin at over 190 mph shifting into 6th gear and all... :mask:

It's the world's benchmark for performance.  The elevation changes, the length, the number of corners, etc. make it so great.  You put too much emphasis on the different days and different drivers because if a car can go round that track in 7 minutes and 20 seconds, I don't care that it's a different day and different driver...that's fucking fast.

Until you get people arguing over a second or two between two different cars run two years apart and declaring one to be "faster" than another. Hell, the same driver can run a car at 8:00 in the morning and again at 3:00 in the afternoon on the same day and have a 5-10 second difference simply due to the temperature of the asphalt.

The Ring is a track. One track. It's a good track and it's a long track and it's got lots of variety to give a nice average of all types of performance, but it's still just one track. It's not the end-all-argument performance measure it's often made out to be. It can't be.

It's not meant to be an enthusiast car at all, Jordan. It's meant to be a grand tourer with maliciously high amounts of power. You don't own this for "fun", you own this for the sake of owning the fastest car on the road today, ever.

If you don't own a car for fun, it had better get good gas mileage.
