That's a load of shit. If you're too arthritic to turn a key (they don't require much effort), you probably shouldn't be driving. My dad is arthritic in his wrists and shoulders, but it doesn't affect his ability to drive. Of course, driving a manual car is very, very painful for him because of the repeated shifter movements, but he can still turn a key perfectly. Doesn't hurt him at all.

I was a passenger in it when dad took it for a spirited drive. I like the CVT in this car a lot better than in our Camry. What I don't understand is the manumatic function. What's the point?

It has a nice engine note, too. Too bad I haven't been able to use the sunroof.

When I test drove the Maxima, I liked using the manumatic feature for "downshifting" the car to engine brake. It's not the least bit jerky like in many other cars; it's nice and smooth as the engine feels like it rev-matches the simulated downshift.

I also took a 2.5 Altima for a short spin at the same dealer, and it felt like a better match for the CVT, because the Maxima didn't feel quite as powerful as it actually was supposed to be. Maybe it's psychological, but it felt a tick slower than the CTS and TL.
