One thing that I have especially enjoyed about the Jetta is the ease in which I can heel-n-toe it. The pedal placement is very good. If the brake pedal was just about 1/2" closer to the throttle, it would be nearly perfect. Also, the throttle response could be a hair quicker.

My brother's Jetta is really slow to rev.

The best throttle response I've ever had is either the Honda or my old Ranger.

The initial throttle response on some Chryslers is made artificially quick. The ol' 3.0 Mitsu V6 was a very good example of that. It took me a long time to drive my Duster smoothly.

The duster was a 5 speed, right?

Yes. But even the 3.0 and 3.8 Chrysler minivans that I have driven had the same obscenely fast initial throttle response, followed by a complete indifference to anything between 1/2 and full throttle.

Not the Dakota. It takes 30 seconds to hit redline from idle in neutral.

It's angry about being an engine and it's lazy too.

Mustang V6's have a very slow throttle response.
Or that was just the POS auto transmission talking.

If I had to choose, I would go with a slow response, because it is easier to press harder with my foot than vice versa. Also, generally speaking, anything with a carburetor tends to have a much more natural and predictable throttle response.

I have spent more quality time with the Jetta in the past two days than I have since I bought it. It is good. I cleaned out the interior a bit. The lacross-playing high-school girl that owned it before me - she left the ashtray full of huge cigars, and the door pockets were full of gold glittary shit that got all over the place when I tried to wipe it off. Thankfully, VW was kind enough to put removeable liners in the door pockets, so I could just wash them off in the kitchen sink.

Sciroccos and GTIs have 16V heads.

Use that head an your block plus a turbo to build this:

You can make it:

Fast
Reliable

Pick any two.

Also, since I live in Maine, it must "pass inspection"

Visual inspection or just smog sniffer?

Visual inspections aren't pointless and irrelevant, IMO.

Just visual, and they ARE pointless and irrelevant IMO - at least when it comes to my cars. Everyone else should have to do them because they are idiots who would never fix their cars otherwise.

That makes no sense!

Well...you can gut the cat and reprogram the ECU.
