No, but seriously, the Jetta needs some attention in other areas before a turbo. Since I am now an automotive student, I expect some exciting things will be happening. I have already completed an oil change and some minor body work on the Jetta. Next, I will need to fix, or replace the exhaust, since the collision bent it back and pinched off the pipe in two places. There is zero power over 3,000rpms now, but OMG THE TORQUE!

Don't put a turbo on that piece of shit. Buy a car that already has a turbo. (Saab 900SE)

Eye of the Tiger

ALso, 3 shocks are just blown out and done with. I think I may have to get the H&R Touring Cup Kit, which comes with matched springs and shocks, only about $500 from Tirerack

If the exhaust is irrepairable, I may consider the cheap, low-quality, ugly and noisy Pacesetter Monza catback for just over $200. Anything else would require more money, or more work than should be necessary for a stupid metal pipe.

-Rear brakes are gone. Easy and cheap to fix, now that I have a shop. I miss the V8Q.
-One brakeline is wicked rusty, easy and cheap to fix, now that I have a shop. I miss the V8Q.
-The clock spring, of course, $240... pfffft
-CEL has been on forever. If I fix it, it'll just turn back on if I put a turbo on. Whatever

and that is all the important stuff to do before I even think about turrbeaus

The Jetta, in all its glory, is worthless with a salvage title, which leads me to two conflicting conclusions:

A. It's not worth selling, so i might as well keep it

B. It's not worth keeping, so i might as well sell it

Unfortunately, they make you pay twice as much to insure and register two vehicles rather than one. You may want to get rid of it.

You can't drive both of them at the same time, so what sense does it make to charge twice as much?

Since I will be the inspecting technician, I would have to say YES.

I saw a 900 SE for $1700. I need to wait until the Jetta title gets processed so I can make sure it's ready to sell.

A NG 900 SE in fair shape will have 185hp, weigh 3020lbs, and cost roughly $2500 to purchase.
If I'm lucky, I could sell the Jetta as-is for $1000, for a net price of $1500. This is assuming the Saab needs no immediate repairs, which is not a good assumption in a $2500 Saab, so let's add $500 for necessary repairs. Out $2000 now. But I can't be driving around with rolly-poly stock suspension, and that turbo boost is way too low, $1000 to fix that. Ok, $3000. What? The timing chaing broke? That'll be $2452360, suxxors.

The Jetta is free, and with a $3000 investment of some repair, maintenece and a turbo kit, should have 188hp at the wheels, weigh 2800lbs, and need no repairs for the foreseeable future. I'm out $3000, but I have a damn turbo, so I'm happy, right? No, I'll want more power, so I'll have to go Stage II and get stiffer suspension, so that's another $1000. So now I'm out $4000.

Jetta has better power:weight, and $4000 < $2452360.

Jetta wins.

For $5000 (the $4k you'd spend on the '3tta) plus the $1k you'd get for selling it you could get a kickass terbow Miata...

Plus you said that you wanted a Miata. $3,000 buys a nice NA Miata, $2k in suspension and terbow will make it a real sports car. :mrcool:

Plus, do you really need practicality and "offroad" abilities? Why not get something fun while you're still single...

You're too late. I decided to pay off my credit card instead of buying fancy car things. I am stuck with a junky Jetta until I save more cashola.

I have a hard time justifying a 2-seat roadster (omfg, don't even try to tell me it's not a roadster because it has glass side windows) when I have a motorcycle that fills the same spot as my impractical, and incredibly fun mode of transport.

The rear could theoretically go up several inches, but the front is more limited. Maybe 3 inch? I'm not sure.
