No but...

> You.

I saw a 2.5 RS coupe the other day. Dude had let his rotors go to shit.

As I write, highly civilized human beings are flying overhead, trying to kill me.

Depending on price, that could be a good deal.

That's unfortunate.  I saw two of them last week, and it made me remember how much I want one.

You're slowly turning into Trep!

If I were, I would be saying something else like, "We'll you have a remote controlled car and I bought mine yadda, yadda, yadda..."

I didn't.  I was just remarking that this car would not be possible or be anticipated unless the mechanicals underneath were good.

I've never stated that a luxury car like the 7 series or S class needed a stick. I've NEVER said that about a minivan and most SUV's either. And I've said good things about automatic cars too.
And yes, automatic cars are shitty if it's a sports car.

Something, I think everything, about this story is completely wrong. The only thing correct is that Toyota maybe planned to have something related to the concept out for 2009. This whole Subaru and AWD thing is definitely bunk. Also, it says at the very bottom the source is Motor Trend. Which we all know is, without a doubt, the worst car magazine EVER.
You see what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps?!!

That's a dual clutch thingy. Not quite manual but not an auto either.
And I still wouldn't get one without a manual.

It isn't a Dual-Clutch setup?

If it only has 2 pedals and it can be driven in a fully automatic mode, is there really that much of a difference other than how long it takes to shift?

FordSVT

The difference between a real sequential manual transmission and something like Chrysler AutoStick or even Porsche Tiptronic is night and day if you've driven both. A SMT is basically a computer controlled manual transmission, with a direct coupling between the engine and transmission instead of a fluid coupling (torque converter). More efficient, quicker and more responsive.

But does it really make a difference in driver happiness and involvement other than the fact that it shifts a little faster?

NO!  I've been saying that forever.

I fall back on this:
Transmission A:  You pull a paddle and the computer executes a shift.
Transmission B:  You pull a paddle and the computer executes a shift.

Which is more involving?

DSGs, F1s, and Tiptronics are all automatics to me.

Exactly.  Flappy paddles might be the fastest way around a track, but that doesn't make it the most involving.  You can't get much more involved by grabbing a stick and shifting the gears and engaging the clutch yourself.  I don't car what anyone says, a manual is the most fun transmission available.  Do I want one in a classic muscle car?  Only if it's a modern manual, but otherwise I'll stick with a 3 speed auto.  Do I want one in every vehicle I own?  Absolutely not.  I don't want one in our family cars, but I'm definitely getting one in my SVT Focus (only tranny it comes with anyway) or in any performance car I would buy.
