Hyundai decides against putting company logo on Genesis grille
February7

Mostly luxury cars are adorned proudly with the maker's logo on the grille or hood. Not the Hyundai Genesis. Hyundai has decided to omit its logo from the grille of the new Genesis luxury sedan, the company announced this week.

At the Detroit auto show, the automaker showed one version of the Genesis with the Hyundai logo and one without. Apparently, reaction to the version without the logo was more positive, so that one will see production.

Hyundai's vice president of product development disclosed the decision at the Chicago Auto Show this week, according to trade publication Automotive News.

Many consumers associate the Hyundai nameplate with economy cars, so it's likely Hyundai feels the need to shun the image as much as possible. There were rumors about a new Hyundai luxury brand, but so far that idea has not materialized.

I think it's just that their preferred grille design didn't have room for a logo, not that they're trying to hide what the car is. I'm sure the only reason they considered the Sonata-style grille was so that no one would call them on this issue, not that anyone particularly liked it.

Amanti.

Who makes it? Mercedes? Jaguar? I dunno!

I just hope they use Sudio in the advertising campaign.

Submariner

They don't want the logo on there because it's a Hyundai.

A pretty pathetic move on their part, considering this is "their next big thing" and is a halo car of some sort.

Maybe this is their next big thing.  To get over the downmarket stigma associated with their products, they won't tell anyone that they're Hyundais!  Genius! :ohyeah:

Agreed. Like the M-B star, but with Hyundai's "H" instead

The Sonata Gold that was sold in India had one of those.

Agreed. If I were in a car company that was about to release a vehicle that is leaps ahead of what we've made previous, I'd want the entire planet to see what we've made and what kind of progress has been covered.

Pontiac didn't put their name on the 2004 GTO (they did badge it though).  That was a great car, but it didn't work out so well...

I don't think Toyota puts their badge on the JDM Century or the Crown, or the original Cressida, for that matter.

Yet they put "Lexus" and the badge on the back of US market Lexus vehicles.

This is the grille that got the best response from the public, so I don't see what's so bad about it.  I prefer this one, actually.

So Hyundai put all this time into making the car but couldn't design a good looking grill with the badge on it?

They did, it just didn't get as good of a response as the one they're putting into production.

Perhaps Audi should stop putting the rings on their grill.  They look ugly.

They should have spent the time doing a grill befitting of the badge then.  This smells like clever marketing to me.

Well, that makes sense. No badge on the car, but a thirty-foot Hyundai logo above the dealership. That will stop people thinking of the car as a Hyundai.

I was thinking that could to the badge on top of the hood on the front, like where BMW & Saab put theirs. That way it wouldn't interfere with the grille.

In Japan Toyota have many different brands, so that's kind of irrelevant.

Plus, people know that these brands are Toyota brands.  It's not like they're trying to hide what it is.

Madman

Do they really think they're going to fool anybody by not putting their logo on the grille?  I mean, their name is going to be on the back of the car, right?  Besides, you have to walk into a Hyundai dealer to see one in the first place.

This sort of reminds me how Oldsmobile didn't but their name on the first Aurora.  As if that's going to stop people from not knowing what it is!

No badge is a bit different from no name.
