I read in a review that it is roughly the same size as the GT500, and GoCougs numbers prove it.

'05 and up mustngs are quite big comapred to the fox derivatives, so both the GT500 and GTR are big.

Not surprising since one is roughly based off the big 4 dr LS chassis and the other is based off an altima chassis.

Neither is on a purpose built sports car chassis like a vette.

I find it odd that the GT-R is the same size as a GT500, is saddled with AWD and turbo's and still weighs less than the GT500. What did ford do to that poor mustang.

Ford added a big heavy iron engine and the heavy t-56 transmission on an already 3500 lb mustang.  Add on a blower plus intercooler, 31 spline rear, bigger brakes and there you have it, 3900 lbs.

Nissan took an already lighter chassis and outfitted is with saving materials, as you would expect in a $60K plus flagship.

The GT-R is significantly more expensive and made with lightweight materials.

The GT-R has always been based off the altima, yet has always been much smaller and lighter than its altima baseness would suggest.

For some reason the Z, which has always been maxima based, was the one to show the size and weight of its parent chassis more than the altima based GT-R's.

It doesn't cost that much more does it. I thought the GT500 was a 50-60K machine. The GT-R is supposed to have a similar MSRP.

SVT666

GT500 has an MSRP of $45K I believe and the GT-R is $60K+

Ahh, that would explain it. For 45K i can see why they had to cut costs in the GT500 the way they did.

I wouldn't call any of the GTRs particularly light, especially this one.

The Z costs far less than the flagship GTR so no surprise that  some of that extra cost is put into lighter weight materials.

A 2008 GT500 starts at $42K.

The GT-R is light by comparison. A similar equipped altima would push 4200lbs. So a weight savings of 400lbs is alot, not to mention that the spec V is said to be 300lbs lighter than the current GT-R.

Compared to an imaginary-like equipped altima it is not heavy but at 3850 lbs, it is seriously a heavyweight compared to its competition such as the ZO6 or the 911 turbo.

They needed to spend more on weight savings.

I saw a GT-R at the auto show a week or two ago, and it is a fairly sizable vehicle. It's bigger than the 350Z.

The GT-R is within 250 lbs of a Tiptronic 911 turbo, it is also larger. So its weight is comparable. The Z06 isn't really in the same class as the GT-R, other than being cheap and fast it doesn't compare.

God forbid you go a day without drinking, you couldn't even stay sober on our anniversary. If it wasn't for the other driving being knocked out he would have surely gotten our license plate number. You couldn't even flee from the scene of an accident without my help.
