I just ordered a set of Azenis for the Jetta! Let's start an Azenis Alliance! I will be President and Founder, of course. I hereby offer you the position of Vice President, but according to the bylaws, you can make your own position. I hear there is an opening for Secretary of Rubber.
In!

Hoosiers are $225 a piece!

I got 1 $60 Riken Raptor because the cowfuckers at the tire shop thought that it looked like a Kelly Evo Z all season. They were wrong and it makes my car a real handful in the snow.

Riken Rapt0r? Sounds like a made up name. I bet it's just a retreaded tractor tire.

They are Z-rated tires so I can go 150 mph.

They are made by Michelin.

The parent company is spelled "Michilin", and it's a Chinese knockoff of a generic tire made by Michelin.

I'll try to keep it under 150 then. It's kinda hard, though.

Eye of the Tiger

I wonder how many miles I'll be able to get out of these. 20k, perhaps? I hope they last for two summers, at least.

I'm hoping to get 10k out of them, which might be just over 2 summers.  Driving the motorcycle a lot so the Viggen sees many less miles!

I need to do a few little things to my bike so it will pass inspection, otherwise it's ready to go! Just waiting for the weather to cooperate...

Overruled.

Probably only a few miles until the steel belts give out from stress.

They have excellent prices.  Hankook Radial K106s for $58-61 apiece, depending on size for me.  That's awesome.

Many racers say you win by cramming on the fattest tire that the rim will accept. I've also heard that doing this hurts grip.

I've heard both sides of that argument too. This is the one I've heard that makes the most sense.

Having a wider tire on a rim increases contact surface, but it also makes the tire less well supported and more apt to roll towards a sidewall under cornering, and ends up lifting off just as amuch rubber as you'd gain otherwise.
Maybe we need to start off small. I mean, they don't let you fuck the glumpers at Glumpees without a level 4 FuckPass, do they?

So then it all comes down to unsprung weight, right?

Having a tire that squirms around a bit could end up giving you more feedback.

And this gets back to my original problem:  205 or 225?

Soup is right, I think. A tire that is a bit wider than the rim will have a more progressive loss of traction at the limit, while a narrower tire may feel more precise, yet breakaway more suddenly.

For instance, if you had your car's suspension biased towards oversteer, you might want to put the narrow tire/wider rim up front, for better steering feel, and put a wider tire/ narrow rim in the rear to provide an easy transition to oversteer.
