I was hoping for a more coupe-like profile rather than a chopped hatchback.  Based on looks, though, I'd go for this before a GTI.

It's neither ugly nor attractive. However, it's not a good "inoffensive" car either.

You're my age.  We're getting old.  Plus, now that you're married, your life expectancy has gone way down, since you're more likely to be poisoned by your wife.

Leaked.

Oh.

Well, I don't hate it, nor do I love it. I don't see much of a point, TBH.

I'm with Soup, the classic is more appealing to me, but I also really dig this new one.  Especially if it gets the Twincharger engine.

Looks like a photoshop.

I think the proportions are great (like an improved C30) but the detailing at the front needs some work.

Toyota Corolla?

Ah, to the matter at hand.  It looks like the shape of the TT Shooting Brake concept.  I like it, but I wouldn't buy it, even if it were sold here.  Not over a GTI.

Someone in the neighborhood next to mine has one (it's really the same neighborhood, but an older development), and I swear in the past five years it hasn't moved once.

Sounds no different than most of the VW's around here.

Seems like a project car that he never got around to or a ran-when-parked that was replaced by a more modern car for daily driving.

Probably, he might think it isn't worth nothing so he never bothered to sell it. You should steal it from him for a couple hundred bucks.

I like it.  It looks better then the GTI...which is already a good looking car.

Galaxy

One does have to wonder if this will only win customers who would have bought a GTI anyways.

Well, what was the ORIGINAL Scirocco's market compared to the Golf and GTi back in the day? I don't se a difference OR a problem. Both had the same chassis and engines, but the Scirocco appealed to those that wanted something sportier looking than an econobox.

If the Scirocco was such a success why did they kill it off?

It ran from 1974 to 1992, when it was replaced by the Corrado, which was the same concept, just with a new name. The Corrado suffered from reliability issues and was killed off. It still has a cult following, like the Scirocco. But the Scirocco was quite successful and had a very long run.
