The original Italian is she-ROH-co, I think. Either way, if the 'sc' at the start is not pronounced 'sh' you're doing it entirely wrong.

I never would have guessed she-RO-co. That must be what I get for growing up in a city heavily influenced by Latino culture and language.   Hey, wait a minute. . .   ;)

93JC

In general you won't learn Italian from hispanics. ;)

I read somewhere that it was almost sold here as an Infiniti.  That would have been a trip.

BTW- does any one know the correct way to pronounce Scirocco?  I always thought it was pronounced like "see-ROCK-oh," but a friend of mine insisted it was "SKI-rock-oh," and on Family Guy they pronounced it "she-ROCK-oh".  These sort of things keep me up at night.

JC has it. We always called my friend's the "Shit Rocket."

Galaxy

It's nice to see that with the Phaeton, Touareg, and Scirocco VW has three cars that start a cultural discussion about language.  :praise:

On that subject wtf is up with VW giving their cars all these exotic and unpronounceable names?  Golf, Polo- why did they give up ease of name recognition?

Besides Touareg, none of them seem weird to me.

Of course Phaeton was a horrible misnomer.

In that case, wouldn't the Italian pronounciation be "she-ROACH-oh"?
(IIRC, "cc" = "ch")

I knew there was a reason for studying Italian at school!

Little did I know it was for the pronunciation of German car models, but there you go.

Thinking of trying to learn Italian from somebody with a thick strayan accent makes my head hurt.

They look great.  I like the ones with the quad headlights better, but that's done really well.  I still like the Corrado better, but prices are too erratic.  Some are 5K, some are 15.
