With gas prices what they are, I will heartily disagree with you.  I think a Mazda3i is right up her alley.  Remember, gas prices are projected to get to $3.50 per gallon sometime soon.

If we can get a 6 V6 cheap, why would we buy a 3?

Quote from: thecarnut on April 06, 2008, 10:28:13 AM
Ro, go with the Mazda6 V6. The TSX is a dog with the AT.

Yeah, I'm really looking hard into it. Thing is, that TSX also seems like a nice deal.

Oh! I forgot they were also looking at 3's.
Get a 3i hatch.

And gas prices are way over $3.50 here.

True and true.

You should definitely be able to talk them down to below $20K (we didn't do a lot of talking, they were heavily marked down for some reason, but I believe we got ours for significantly less than $20K). I know this is also slightly flawed [and subjective] logic, but it's also an outgoing model now... I wouldn't buy one unless i got a really really good deal.

I follow that logic. Hell, that's the reason why it's even on our list.

Gas mileage, the 3 looks better, etc?
The 6 is the best looking midsize though. If you could get it for $18-19k then that's probably a good route.

That's all true (I think the 6 looks better proportioned than the 3 does), but if we can get a 6 V6 cheap, it really does seem like a better deal than the 3 would be.

I agree. I'm waiting on quotes from the Mazda dealer on a Performance White 6s VP with a black interior. If it's under $20K, it's a huge contender.

Has anyone noticed the Mazda key? I like it.

Not this time. Gas prices are so close to $4 (in fact, over $4 here for premium) that by the time summer comes around, I don't see how gas prices nationally won't be hitting the $4 mark (or close to it).

Yes.  No one watches the news unless they're afraid of something.  News programs have become profit centers, just like any other show, instead of the "noble" programming they once were.  They like to get people worried so they'll tune in to learn more, and in the end, find out that everything turns out okay.
