OMG> Both you and your dad are crazy. Getting rid of the TREP for another USED car of equivalent POS-NESS is incredibly stupid.

Thank you for your input, Mr. ChevySuzukiAudiFordVolkswagen.
Maybe we need to start off small. I mean, they don't let you fuck the glumpers at Glumpees without a level 4 FuckPass, do they?

I'm still pissed at him for dumping the Audi.

You know, for a wealthy guy in his early 30s, you've got a lot of growing up to do.

I'm 27 and i'm no where near wealthy.

I'm also not the one that lies and creates enough teen drama to fill a slumber party.

I offered him use of my garage and tools to re-do the brake lines. I'm willing to bet the calipers could have been rebuilt.

But yes, even with $3000 worth of repair bills!

So I warned you.

Dad just came in, we had a talk. He did his research, he looked at all those links, and here.

So far, all I've paid was the purchase price of this car. Over the last 2 years of ownership (March 30, 2006 to present), my dad has put in $2355.50 on maintenance. He says that this much maintenance + all my comfort modifications should keep the car going for another few years. If it needs a brake job, I'm putting ceramics on it, funded by my dad. When the SilverStars go, he says I can put in a 4300k kit.

Now, I'm a bit annoyed that he wasted my time by telling me this AGAIN and AGAIN over the past few months, and I've in turn wasted YOUR time, Ro and Rags, and whoever else has shown me Craigslist and AutoTrader ads.

Essentially we came to the conclusion that any car we buy for $7-8k may not be as reliable as this one, and may even be worse. My dad right now doesn't want to foot the extra money to buy a good CPO or new car.

Thus, old Treppie is staying.

Sheesh, Indian parents are so indecisive.

They really are.

He asked me the pros/cons of keeping it:

Pros:
-We like the car
-It's fully loaded
-More than adequate for my needs
-I've put a lot of money into modifying it

Cons:
-May be unreliable in the future, and that's just a MAY.

Thus, keeping it won.

I hope The Intrepid doesn't mind if I hijack the thread. I have a similar dilemma. The Jetta is almost out of gas. I mean, the needle is in the red, so it doesn't have much left. I have a feeling that I might need get new gas in. Getting the gas replaced is such a hassle, though. I'm thinking about getting a new car. I'm considering:

1989 Dodge Colt Vista
1994 Chevrolet Cavalier Wagon
2003 Suzuki Reno
1985 Chevrolet Corvette
1991 Volkswagen Golf GL
