I think Navigation is useful when I'm driving on business somewhere and I don't know where I'm going.

Wouldn't use it for pleasure/social trips though.

I've used my portable nav system on several occasions to go party hopping, find a 24 hour diner afterwards, etc.

Come to think of it that would be quite useful...

confused alittle on something.

I keep seeing the number 888, this seems to be the number of G8's available.

I also see that pontaic will build 7-8000 GXP's in the first year.

So how many regular G8's are there, is it 888? is that the number of cars in the "initial" batch or for the model year?

I saw a car driving around from the local dealer, i can't find it on their website. I'll have to stop by the dealer to see what the dealer markup is.

I think there's only been one shipment of G8's from Australia, so 888 would probably be close.

The "first 888 G8's" is a marketing ploy.  That's all.  I'd expect closer to 8-10k of them overall the first year.

If you think of this is 40k for a Pontiac then yes, it's too expensive.

Somewhat, but more important what other cars are in this price range?

They are putting it in near luxury category.

I think the car looks great but considering the competetion....

Maybe im confusing what it will be competing against.

Size wise, I think it'll be competing against E class, 5 series, A6, RL, Infiniti M, Lexus GS.  if you're going luxury.  But those will only get you the lower end models most likely.  I don't know what non-luxury car you can get for that price.

What other car can get you 400+ hp for $40k? For $40k, you're looking at BMW 528i's! Or 335i's!
This is a great deal, but I actually think the G8 GT is a better deal (even better if it comes with a 6 speed manual).

If u want a fast car at good price I agree.

But most people are not buying a car for that reason.

Then why are the WRX, GTI, Si, etc popular?

None of these are overly awesome cars but they sell well because they are quick and cheap.  This new G8 will have more speed/$ ratio I imagine.

What does the 3 and 5 series have that the GXP doesn't? The GXP is pretty luxurious, and insanely powerful for the price.

Hell, I think the 6.0L G8 already presents a better performance value than the Evo/STi...let alone being a better overall vehicle (with regard to space, comfort, refinement) for about the same price

STi, maybe but the new EVO? I don't know about that. Other than size(interior room) and weight the G8 can't hope to touch the insane handling ability of the new EVO.

Yeah, but that's what I don't like about the Evo, it doesn't have the same feel as the previous gens.  It's no longer the rally car knockoff that it's suppose to be.. it's gone upmarket..

isn't that what an RS is for?

I'll give you that. But the G8 seems more upscale, and that would be a big draw for people shopping that price range.

Sigma Projects

yea, the G8 and Evo seem like different markets. The Evo will always have a boy racer appeal, not saying it is, but it definitely appeals to them.

I really dig the G8 GT. If it was smaller I'd probably be out shopping for one.

However, if I wanted a car that was CTS/5-Series or even G35 sized, it would be hard to pass up on a loaded G8 GT, especially if they ever offer it with a stick.

The GXP seems to take everything that is cool about the G8 and bump it up a notch (or two).

I'll have to test drive one just to get a feel for it at some point, but to be honest I enjoy smaller cars so I doubt I would be impressed enough to ever actually buy it.
