Yeah, the Maxima is bigger but I still think if it was RWD that it would overlap too much with the G35. Keeping it FWD gives buyers looking to upgrade from midsize family sedans the choice of RWD or FWD.  The way I see it the Maxima took over the spot once occupied by the I35, the Altima took over the spot occupied by the Maxima, and the G35 let them compete in another class. I think over all this was a good move for Nissan. I see the Maxima's competitors as the TL, Passat, and ES350.

I don't know.  A larger car with a mainstream badge probably won't step on the G37's toes too much.  The US buying public is very image conscious.

Bloody Bangle popularising headlights and taillights that try to meet in the middle of the car.

That's a gumby, fussy, stupid-looking thing.

They also haven't sold the I35 in like 5 years.  As part of their marketing strategy that went into effect about 5 years ago, Nissan has intentionally made strides to push the Infiniti line away from the offerings in the Nissan line in North America by purposely avoiding selling lux'ed up rebadged North American Nissans as Infinitis.  The only rebadge in their lineup is the QX56.

I really don't like this new model. I feel like it's all over the place.

I prefer the 07' and not because I own one. This thing looks "soft".

Look at the size of those front-and-rear overhangs.  Was this thing based on the Sentra platform?

The car has no edge to it.  Like someone else said, it's a softie.

What?!?!?!  This is one of the most daring sedans I've ever seen.  Look at the first picture in this thread again and tell me that doesn't have any edge.  I'm no Nissan fan and everyone on here knows that, but if I was in the market for a sporty sedan right now, this would be near the top of my list based on the wild styling alone.

sportyaccordy

Looks like every sedan out now (GS, Jag XF, Lincoln XOREPWEPLR, Toyota Camry, Lexus ES etc etc very fucking tired).

I have no idea how you come to this conclusion but you're certainly entitled to it.  It looks just like the Lexus or even a Camry.  To me it looks anything but "daring".  Ugly headlights shouldn't imply it is somehow "daring".  I'm not saying it's bad but it could have been better.

Justin

I just saw it in person and sat in it for a while. It's much better live than in pictures (what car isn't that true for?). I wouldn't buy one for myself, but I would suggest it for my mother.

And x2 on the Lexus ES350 comments.

I'm going to the NYIAS with a few others here on Friday so I'll take a look at it.  It's a nice car I was just hoping for a bit more.  It's certainly not encouraging me to trade in the 07.

Sure, in profile it looks like the Infiniti M, Lexus GS, and Jaguar XF, but the rest of the car is unique.

Yeah I think you're right but I was hoping for unique in a different way or something with a bit more edge to it.  Oh well.  Like I said, I'm not disgusted buy it by any means.  I really like the interior too.
