Does Trep finally get busted?

So today a few friends and I decided to go to Niagara Falls for dinner. The choice cars? A new 2008 Accord EX-V6 with 268 horsepower, a new 2008 Camry LE V6 with 268 horsepower, and a far superior 2004 Intrepid with 250 horsepower. The road to Niagara Falls is about 150-200km from were we were, on a long stretch of highway. The limit was 100 km/h. Initially all three cars were one behind the other at about 120-125km/h (70-73mph) before one of the girls in my car had to take a piss, and we had to take the exit.

In order to catch up to these guys who were about ~10 minutes ahead of us, I planted my cruise right at 145km/h (88-89mph) and let it flow. Ultimately, we whipped passed the other two cars, and the Trep was making up for its age with its sheer speed. We were enjoying the ride, blasting music out of the sunroof while joking around as teenagers do, when all of a sudden I noticed a black Crown Vic off to the side. I hit my brakes and downshifted, and went past him doing maybe 120 (72mph?).

He pulled out behind me, and of course I started panicking. I told my friends to shut the fuck up, and I turned off the stereo. He followed me for a good kilometer, before flashing the lights to pull me over. This is where the weird shit happens.... I pulled over, cut the engine, rolled down my window and waited for the inevitable. (At this time my friends' cars went by, with them pointing and laughing out the windows)

He did some stuff in his car, I could see him typing into the computer. I kept thinking that if he got me at 145, I was royally fucked. He then opened his door, then closed it again, then turned his car on and drove off. Of course I followed suit, and got the hell out of there.

My only guess is that he noticed the University of Toronto plate frame/window sticker in my car and decided to cut me a break as I was a good hour from home?

No, he was probably called away for more pressing matters. He knew where you lived before he pulled you over.

I would think he took that 5 minutes he sat in his car parked behind me tracking me, as opposed to playing with his computer while tailgating me, which would be dangerous as shit.

No, cops generally like to assess any potential threats before you have a chance to react.

I still can't help but laugh when you use the term "downshift" when talking about your autostick.

Also, there was no need to panic. You took a risk by going well over the limit and should have been prepared to accept whatever consequence. Regardless, that was weak. The cop probably got called in to something much more important.

Either that or he saw the R/T badges and decided not to mess with such a potent car.

He was running a check at the DMV to see if the R/T was for reals. He was planning on getting your autograph.

Yup, read that and was like WTF.

Getting pinched for going that high over the limit would have landed you serious jail time, and they would have crushed your car too.

You're lucky, there was probably an officer needs assistance call.

I would however watch the news for the next couple weeks to make sure that the story doesn't show up and the police aren't looking for you.

Although seeing the Intrepid R/T crushed would make a few of you jealous bastards happy, that would only happen if I was going 50 over the limit. Just in fear of the new "50 over" law, I stay at 40-45 over.

I think Treppo was going 88~89 (145 km/h) when he got pulled over.

And Soup is spot on with his analysis, as usual.

No, I was coming up behind him doing 145-ish... I saw him about 50-75 meters away and hit the brakes, went past him at about 120 and decelerating.

If it takes you 50 meters to slow only 25 km/hr, you've got terrible brakes

50m may have been an exaggeration, but my brakes are fine. I guess the reaction time collaborated with a misinterpretation of the distance.
