American car companies have a long history (and Heritage?) of naming crap cars after exotic-sounding places.  Examples: Chevrolet Monte Carlo, Oldsmobile Calais, Dodge Monaco, Ford Torino, Mercury Milan, Lincoln Versailles, Dodge Aspen, Chevrolet Corsica, Mercury Montery, Chrysler Cordoba, Cadillac Seville, etc.
