Ignoring pictures...

Remember, this is based on the quality of the read.  I know one of these magazines has a little bit of an advantage when it comes to pictures, but most of the content of these publications is socio-political with some pop culture, celebrity news, and trends in it.

So if I were to give you a magazine with just text in it -- no pictures -- which one would you pick?

Playboy.  Maxim used to be on the same level, but all their articles are crap pseudo-humor or uninteresting.  Playboy is actually well written. 

And pictures are kind of even.  I mean, sure Playboy gives you nudes, but then again, more of the celebrities we all fantasize about will do sexy semi-clothed photos for a mag like Maxim.

I voted for Playboy as well.  It's rather funny, Raza and I were discussing this very topic on AIM not too long ago.  And yes, I find Playboy to be very well-written, with relevant content.

None really. I don't look at porn but I voted GQ. Ocasionaly I flip through it to check out clothing trends and that type of thing.

I must agree with Raza on this one. Playboy is better than the others. I had a subscription to it and Maxim for years and Playboy has better articles in it. Maxim became the same thing over and over again with just hot celebrity ass in it. Not that it's a bad thing.
And with Playboy you get the great jokes! Ok, that's a stretch I know. My only complaint about PB is 9 out of the 12 months have blonds that look the same. When I fire off some knuckle babies I like to have some variety. Throw some Asians and other girls
for me to look at.

Magazines like Maxim, FHM and GQ are total shit IMHO.  I will ocassionally pick one up in a dentist's office or something, but none can hold my attention for more than about 3 minutes.

Anyways, there are only a few magazines in the english language that can regularly boast of such contributing writers as Kurt Vonnegut, Gore Vidal, and Tom Wolfe.

The New Yorker is one. The Atlantic is another; but the best articles are published in Playboy.

Woodward and Bernstein's "All the President's Men" was serialized in Playboy before it ever was published as a complete volume. The same is true of Tom Wolfe's "The Pump House Gang."

Hell, I'd read Playboy even if the women had their clothes on.  I read the short stories almost every month.  Stephen King's last story, Mute was actually the only Stephen King story that didn't end the same way.

Present day Playboy is a shadow of what it once was: trying to keep up with the intertubes has not been kind to it. Still, its far and away light years better tham FHM or Maxim, and is still a good mag for the one or two good articles in it per issue.

And that's in a universe where there are only maybe half a dozen good magazines in current publication.

You can't say something is bad if you haven't even read a few. And they don't make your IQ drop. Other than the blood running away from brain number 2 down to number 1 when you look at the fine ass girls. And if you don't like that then I can't help you.
