I too am shocked by how unexpectedly fast cars are these days.  It seems you have to buy a monstrous sports car just to stay in front of the SUV's and family sedans these days.

Cobra93

For the most part, that article should have been " Very expensive vehicles can be as fast as cheap ones".   I would expect any $60,000+ 10 mpg SUV to be fairly quick.

S204STi

There is certainly a point at which even five seconds to sixty mph is going to be commonplace (see the Camry/WRX comparo) but that is where other traits, such as handling, can make a car shine.

GoCougs

To put into perspective they should do a drag strip shoot out with a stripper Camry LE V6 and the legends of yesteryear - all but the tippy top-tier (Hemi Charger, L-72 Vette, etc.) would fall victim to quintessential averageness of today.

On a track would be pretty cool, too.

0-60 times are overrated anyways.

Still, a cool article.

Who cares? Honestly, what difference does it make if a SUV can hang with a sports car in a straight line. The driver of the sports car can have alot more fun.

Camry on track is just downright scary.  There was some old fart that brought an ES300 on the track once and had an instructor.  Even when the instructor were driving the damn thing, he was creating a traffic jam on the track..

Vinsanity

...which is why I think they should use it as American Top Gear's reasonably-priced car

I autocrossed an ES300... found it fairly competant... well at least the brakes didnt turn to mush like the CTS's did

... and I think I'd put my money on a Camry V6 at a roadcourse against something like a 69 Challenger
