The kink just behind the door is a nice touch, but not quite as dramatic as I was hoping for.  I like the sequential tail lamps, though.

I can't believe they're still putting that old lump of a V6 in it.

It would be nice if they'd stop putting low performance engines in their "performance" car, even if it is just the base model.  With the base Challenger offering up 250 hp (though sadly coupled only to a 4AT) and the upcoming base Camaro offering 300, Ford really needs to step up to the plate and drop in the 3.5L Duratec in the Mustang.

It's not that old. I think it's the same 4.0L SOHC from the Ranger, which came out in 2001. It made it's way into the Mustang for 2005.

TBR

Isn't it just a stroked/bored version of the 3.8?

Nope, that was a pushrod engine.

It's not great, but still better than the Dodge 3.9L Magnum.

The 4.0L SOHC debuted in the '97 Explorer.  Its roots go back much further, though.  It's an OHC version of the decades old Cologne V6.  The 4.0L OHV version that it is based on showed up in 1990, and that engine was simply a bored out version of the even older 2.9L.

Heh...my '86 Ranger had the 2.9L.

Looks nice but I want to see more exterior/side shots!

I am going to have to warm up to the rear 3/4 view.

Interior looks fantastic in that cashmere color. The front looks pretty much the same to me, only minor differences.

But the rear! OH MY GOD MY EYES! It looks like a japanese car now! My first thought was the old G35 Infiniti! It's horrible.

Did it get a power boost?
?Do you expect me to talk?"
"No, Mr Bond. I expect you to die!?

Yes!

Yes!

Yes!

Yes!

.....Almost! I love how the hint of coke-bottle makes the rear 3/4 window appear in proportion at last and the new lip spoiler is quite, quite lovely, but the centre badge is much too big and the rear bumper a bit heavy. Something else isn't quite right, either, but I can't put my finger on it just yet.

All is forgiven, however, because sequential taillights are making their triumphant return!

FoMoJo

It looks like they took a few more cues from the '67 fastback.  I don't know where they got that rear end from though.  A nice improvement over the previous model; except for the rear styling.

No more power, I think it gets more in '11-12.

Finally!  I have been complaining about the big, expansive, flat, and characterless hood since 2005.  They finally gave it some shape.  The front end looks 10X better, and the rear is going to take some getting used to, but it's not what I was expecting.  I guess I won't be buying a 2005-09 Mustang when I do buy one.  I'm going to have to wait longer and buy an '10.

According to this article...Engineers also reworked the GT's 4.6-liter V-8's air intake to add 15 ponies under that newly crafted power dome hood to boost the engine to 315 horsepower. Ford promises an even throatier engine note,

Minuses:
The massively tacky turn signals in the headlight bezels
The taillights--Ewwwwww!
The "beveled" (or whatever cutting off the corners might be called) rear bumper
More lower-body cladding than an Avalanche
Rectangular center HVAC vents instead of round vents
The typically Fordian chubby steering wheel
Dicking with the styling of the galloping Mustang emblem
The riceboy/redneck hood bulge

Pluses:
The rear fender kick-up!
The relocation of the dorky antenna stalk to the passenger rear fender
Upgraded upholstery & stitching
Differentially adjustable HVAC system
A remote trunklid release in the passenger compartment
Replacing the galloping Mustang emblem's chrome with black chrome

Things that needed fixin' but nobody did:
Trashing that hideous faux gas cap!
Placing the radio antenna in the glass
Genuine body-color painted teardrop side mirrors
Genuine "C scoops" on the sides instead of the hockey sticks
Bigger wheel tubs to fit much wider rear tires

So many stairs...so little time...

Oops, I missed that.

It's okay, but I like the current model better.  This one looks like it's squinting.

With the Camaro and Hyundai coupe on the way I thought Ford would do more than minor cosmetic tweaks and tiny bump in hp.

Though it's wishful thinking, I hope the new Camaro crushes the Mustang in sales.

Something else isn't quite right, either, but I can't put my finger on it just yet.

The rear end has two planes--one perpindicular to the road, where the liscence plate and lower bumper are; and one that slopes up back towards the front of the car, where the badge and taillights are.

It looks like they took the rear-end cues from the orginal G35, only they decided to make it more pronounced and ugly (if that's even possible)  :banghead:

The rest of the car looks great.

Depending on price, that could be a good deal.

It won't, but rumor has it that the new engines are coming soon, a 5.0 and a 6.1.
