Call me crazy, but I'm really diggin' this!  Maybe I'd do one of these minus the wood?

Here's one I spotted last year.  I think the baby moon wheels and whitewalls look great!

I wanted to build a 2 door PT woody with real wood.

We might have to get you into a Yenko Stinger at that rate.  If it looks like a Corvair on steroids when you Google search it, it's probably the right car.
2. 1995 Saturn SL2 5-speed, 126,500 miles. 5,000 miles in two and a half months. That works out to 24,000 miles per year if I can keep up the pace.

I don't care about all that shit.  I'll be going to college to get an education at a cost to my parents.  I'm not going to fool around.

I've driven a few, and I agree that they are great drivers for SUVs.

That doesn't excuse them being ugly.  People expect Hummers to be ugly.
Don't agree this is pretty good looking actually in a weird sort of way.

I think it's controversial.

Raza

When I first saw an X6 in person I wanted to look away, but I couldn't.  You know those cartoon Asian people they used to draw way back when?  With the funny hats, buck teeth, and basically closed eyes?  That's the first image that came to mind.

Are you serious?  Not only is it controversial, but it's a POS.  It's not even a good car.

Personally I don't see anything controversial with it, but lots of other people seem to think there is.

Ok, so I read the Wikipedia entry on the whole Edsel debacle and I was wondering what exactly was wrong with the design aspect. I always found the Edsel to be a very good-looking car. Honestly.

I know there were other reasons for why it failed, but the design IMO was pretty cool.  :mrcool:

Call me nuts, but I kind of have a soft spot for the old Mustang Cobra IIs.  Those and AMC Gremlin Xs (with the V8).

Yes, I don't see it as particularly radical or ugly in comparison with other cars from the same year.

93JC

It wasn't so much that the design itself was particularly poor; it wasn't, it was a rather good car.

The problem was that it was so overhyped that when it finally came to market the consumers were left scratching their heads going, "So... what was supposed to be so revolutionary about this car? It looks and feels pretty normal to me."

Yeah. It didn't look bad, but it was supposed to be the car of the future. It was nice, but you got inside and saw all sorts of lincoln/mercury/ford switchgear. Coupled with a high-price, sales were poor for what people recognized as a glorified mercury.

Perhaps one of the last series of Saab Sonnets or a 71 Pinto.

Poor quality control, even by 1950's standards.  Electrical problems in the dash area and a front end design that was likened to a Ford sucking on a lemon.

Then add in a short but sharp recession that started around the same time as the car's introduction.  Remember this was to be the car line that was to be positioned between Mercury and Lincoln.  Upscale and fairly expensive.

Minpin

I can't really think of too many controversial cars, but I would have to say the Tesla nowadays. It seems like it would be really cool to experience it, just not for 110k or whatever it's MSRP is.

There is a shit ton of controversy out there for it now.
