The 300 is one of Chrysler's few successful (both critically and comercially) models in recent memory. If you have a problem with the DC merger, then that's another issue.

Ford and Chevy produced lackluster fullsizers over the past 5 years, and I guarantee you that they both wish they had a hit like the 300.

The cars were successes because of the Hemi image attached to them, whether the cars had the Hemi or not.

A Ford version would have been like the Chevy HHR to Chrysler's PT Cruiser.  Sure, it would have been generally well-regarded, but the car would have never had the success of the Chrysler.  And given that the car was a 2003 concept, it wouldn't have hit the market until 2005 or so -- just in time to become irrelevant.

EDIT:  The 300 came out at the end of 2004 as an '05 model.  Still, I will stand by my statement about the 427.  Ford wouldn't have had the marketing department to make the 427 as "cool" as the LX cars, and they wouldn't have had the engine at the time to make it good.  Also, it would have been redundant with the Crown Vic out there, and we all know Ford's bean counters don't like redundancy from two separate models...
2. 1995 Saturn SL2 5-speed, 126,500 miles. 5,000 miles in two and a half months. That works out to 24,000 miles per year if I can keep up the pace.

I don't care about all that shit.  I'll be going to college to get an education at a cost to my parents.  I'm not going to fool around.

She'll hate diesel passenger cars, all things Ford, and fiat currency.  They will masturbate to old interviews of Ayn Rand an youtube together.
You can take the troll out of the Subaru, but you can't take the Subaru out of the troll!

Atomic

it would have been nice to see the ford 427 as the crown vic's replacement. guess that was not in the cards. the role of the new taurus will have to suffice.

FoMoJo

Great angle.  There's something a bit retro about the tail lights, dating back to the '66 Galaxy, but in a good way.  I like it.

Yeah, I think you're right that it does look retro in a way but comes across as really clean and modern.  Sweet

Raza

Looks fucking good up front, but in profile and at the rear I'm not digging it so much.

i see that you mean about the rear.

Speed_Racer

That last pic really shows the rear overhang. You could rent out the trunk space as an urban loft - it looks huge from the outside!

I wonder how much direct input Peter Horbury had in the design; other than being in charge of all design for North American Ford, Lincoln and Mercury.  As with the transition of Volvo a few years back, his designs are influenced by the overriding design themes (art, architecture, etc.) of the nation.  While the front of the car reflects a certain techno refinement and the profile is sleek, the rear is, definately, bold.  I wonder how well it will catch on.

On the plus side, it shouldn't have to compromise on rear legroom or trunkspace.

Depending on price, that could be a good deal.

 I didn't realize it could be taken in such a way.  Funnnnnnny.

Atomic

remember, it is a family car after all! most buyers will not give a damn about the profile, and most will likely praise what must be an enormous trunk. i think we are being mighty picky dissing a taurus!

Agreed.  This car must have a huge trunk and monster rear legroom.

nickdrinkwater

I've said this before but what is it with Ford/GM and those shitty chrome wheels?

Oh, the car is nothing special.

CJ

I despise the rear.  The front looks great.

I reject your reality and substitute my own. This thing works.

And look at the crease in that rear quarter panel! That's genius.

I forgot that is isn't in the Camry segment anymore though.
I really like this car- the color is perfect for it to.

Catman

Actually the new SHO looks damn good and the rear looks better with those taillights and that small lip spoiler.

USA_Idol

Though it's a bit too gargantuan for my needs, the idea of a new Taurus SHO is intriguing.  ;)

The Taurus SHO is very intriguing, but I think I would rather have an SVT Fusion.

Buy an Old SHO.
I would but I'm scared of their reliability from the Yamaha V6.

Where did I say that?

I don't really want a 944 anymore. That was a long time ago.
