WOO WOOOOOOOO!!!

In about 10-12 years I'll have a SHO Ecoboost in the driveway...  :-)

i'm sure they are going to have a tough time selling a $38k Taurus... but maybe, just maybe they have pulled off something that is actually worth more then that amount of money and can compete with the best sport sedans out there

Damn fine looking car :ohyeah:.

TAURUS SHO RETURNS WITH 365HP ECOBOOST V-6, PLUS ALL-WHEEL DRIVE, PADDLE-SHIFT SIX-SPEED GEARBOX

Impressive.

I want an MT shift, but many people don't. Impressive. I hope performance won't be hindered too much, since the Taurus isn't exactly light.

When I think of the next closest direct competitor to this car in size, packaging, and price, the most immediate things that come to mind are the Genesis and TL SH-AWD.  The Genesis can be had at around the same price, but it's only RWD.  The TL is $5k more expensive, but they seem like very similar cars on paper.  It might hurt Ford that this car has a mainstream badge on it.  Then again, it might be a good move to start going upscale with some of their cars.

I think it's overpriced at the moment, but I have no idea how it performs, either.
2. 1995 Saturn SL2 5-speed, 126,500 miles. 5,000 miles in two and a half months. That works out to 24,000 miles per year if I can keep up the pace.

I don't care about all that shit.  I'll be going to college to get an education at a cost to my parents.  I'm not going to fool around.

You can take the troll out of the Subaru, but you can't take the Subaru out of the troll!

Eye of the Tiger

Seems right on the money for a modern SHO. Needs a manual, but they'd only sell about three of them because that's how many people know what a clutch is anymore.

S204STi

Wow, very good looking car, and it should be very quick as well.

SVT666

Without a manual, I wouldn't buy one.  Though, if a manual were offered, then I would look for one on the used market in a few years.

GoCougs

Interesting, but $38k base MSRP for a Ford Taurus? Virtually no one shopping for moderate performance ~$40k sedans would look at Taurus. If Ford is shooting for more than ~ 500 units/year, they'll be sorely disappointed.

Submariner

Agreed...Although if Hyundai can pull it off with the Genesis, maybe Ford has a shot.

That being said, I saw my first Genesis yesterday, all I came away with was that it was bloated from the front, sort of like a last generation pre-facelift Lexus LS.

Where are all the Genius and Taurus SHO comparison coming from?  2 completely different markets, in my opinion.

Both big powerful not too expensive sedans.

And since this won't come in an MT I'd rather have a Genesis. Better looking and RWD.

Maybe they can, but Hyundai though did well by developing a new brand name and otherwise making an effort to upscale the image of the car. Keeping this level of sport and performance attached to the Taurus nameplate brings along a whole heck of a lot of baggage.

Driving by the local Pontiac dealer they have a few '08 G8 GTs stickered at $20k and change. A bit of bargaining would get you one for $18k easily.

Are those the GT or the V6?  I highly doubt it's the V8.

Byteme

Impressive statistics on paper.  Looks good too, except for the wheels and spoiler.

If Ford can survive the next 12 months I think they are going to be very well positioned int he automobile market.

the Teuton

Unfortunately, I have to agree that this is a much smarter car for the American market than the Falcon would have been.

No MT, and I think the Genesis is still a better looking car.

The Genesis is generic as ever, and also doesn't have an MT. Besides, the GXP has a Six-speed as an option.

He's right.

I like the G8 and would be more likely to buy one, but it suffers the same afflictions as the LS2 GTO, a classy, conservative car with ugly wheels and a ridiculous hood. The Genesis has the grill, but it's proportions and curves are perfect.

My opinion...
Genesis>G8>SHO

Though, if the G8 GXP can be had as severely discounted as the regular one I'd take one of those I think.

I thought they weren't bringing over the GXP?

I don't care how good of a car it may be, the Genesis looks like ass.  They must have spent a good year taking cues from every car they wanted to target it at, then blended them together in a wonderfully bland, bulbous design.

Like I said, G8 GT.

Dealer price on the web is $22.2k, but the sticker in the window is $20.xk.

That autotrader.com search showed loads of dealer-listed '08 G8 GTs in the $22k - $24k range. Anyone of those could be had for $20k or less, I can virtually guarantee.
