I have recently become enamored with V8s but I have a questionq

I love the V8 soundtrack.  I want a V8 for my next car too, and regular updates on ChrisV's ride have me checking prices on E38s.

After you wake up with the sun at 6am on someone's floor, coughing up cigarette butts and tasting like warm beer, you may well change your opinion on this matter.

Euro V8s are getting cheap. You can haz E39 M5 for 20K no problem. Same for B6 S4.

I'm thinking of getting a couple small racing mufflers to knock the edge off without reducing rumble. Of course, in the vids, the YouTube (and cheap camcorder microphone) audio is not really representative of the tone in real life as it's much raspier in the vid than it is when you are standing there. At lower rpms, it's exactly like my buddy's Bassani equipped '06 Mustang GT, but at higher rpms it really starts ripping like a bigger Italian V8.

Here's an E38 we need. Needs a bit of cleanup, but it's got a rare 6 speed manual conversion:

I will own an American V8-engined car one day. Observing them up-close at shows and the like just will not cut it.

Yeah, if I had the cash right now, it'd be mine. The conversion cost more than he's asking for the car. And I could fix the carpet and inevitable NYC bodywork issues.

That is awesome.  I'd drive around in a suit and gloves all day pretending I was the Transporter.

Although, I too would rather go for a factory 540i six speed.

There is nothing quite like the sound of an uncorked Mustang at redline.   I love it.

Better yet is a Supercharged V8 Mustang at WOT near redline.   :ohyeah:

Listen fast though, because that doesn't last long..

I was behind a modified Cobra the other day.  The engine sounded like a bag of chainsaws when he got on it.  It was irritating.

Just a shitty exhaust setup.

Sidepipes?  They make a good V8 sound like crap.

Straight piped V8s sound like ass in general. A good set of mufflers goes a long way.

I couldn't get that close to it; he was really moving along, and it took some doing to catch up to him.  Then he turned, and a car turned in front of me before I could.  I tracked the guy down, but I thought it was weird for me to pull into his driveway to look at his car.

Also, it was painted in black and orange.  Very easy to spot.

Depends on if there's a crossover pipe or not.  If it's a 4-into-1 from the same cylinder bank, yeah, it'll sound pretty strange (a flat-plane 8 will sound like a 4 banger and a crossplane will just sound weird).

Probably.  My friend's Mustang (4.6L GT 5MT) sounded like crap.  When you were in it, it was exciting and fun when he was getting on it.  But then, you realize that it was just loud, and barely sounded like an engine.

He had an X pipe and something or other.

Imo, the best sounding V8 is a high-compression (10.5:1 or better) small-block (5 litre or less) with a set of glass pack mufflers and tail-pipes straight out the back.

These are the Magnapack mufflers I had on my Mustang.

The inside is a straight through design.  The pipe on the inside of the muffler is perforated and the casing is stuffed with stainless steel wool.

They would do as well :ohyeah:.

They're essentially glasspacks with stainless steel wool instead of fibreglass.  Glasspacks are annoying after the fibreglass burns up and blows out.  That annoying BLAAAAT! never happens with these.

You can't do that, you only drive Accords.
