Yes, but it makes it a neat and tidy package to install on the assembly line.

There are some supposed advantages. It makes the charge pipes short, so it reduces lag, and its relatively easy to vent through the hood, and it helps somewhat with the for aft weight distribution, which is especially important on a nose heavy design liek a Subie.

But, it also raises the C of G, puts it in a very hot place in the first place, and there is minimal natural airflow.

Most people searching for power on their turbo Subies go to a front mount intercooler pretty early on.

False.

I posted that and thought to specify boxer 4s. I can only live with them through equal length headers, anything else is just not civilized.

But Porsches are cool w/me. I could live with a 997 C2S

Front mounts are really one of the last things you need to do to a Subaru unless you're worried about heat soak (like, lots of track time and all that).  If so, then yeah they make sense.

But otherwise I agree with your post.

Subies don't make good drag cars, so yeah, I would consider heat soak to be a real concern.

I agree with Roy.  Also, empirical data suggests most Subaru owners with lots of money and little sense don't change the placement of the intercooler.

And Roy agrees with me.

8 out of 10 that I've ever seen that have been modified with power mostly in mind have changed to a front mount.

Just get a bigger hood scoop if you want a fast Subaru.  And a bigger spoiler.  And add more spoilers.  Two rear spoilers, at least two roof spoilers, and a spoiler in front of your bigger hood scoop that forces are into it.  And side spoilers that force air on to the brakes, to cool them off.

Or get a Mitsubishi, on the hop.  You'd be better off.

In any case, the Genesis coupe is not bland.  Go see one in person.

Raza

The Genesis sedan is certainly bland, and purposely so.  The coupe is quite good looking, and thanks to a funky windowline and dramatic front fascia is quite distinctive indeed.

I don't know why they decided to give them the same name, though.  Even Mercedes stopped calling the two door S class an "S class coupe" some time ago.  They also raised base price 10 grand that year.  Brilliant strategy.

True, though it seems MB are going back to that strategy with the 'E-Class Coupe'.

I'm guessing that if Genesis is successful it will be a brand in its own right in future.

The E class coupe is a great way to justify moving up the pricepoint of a CLK replacement.

www.autoblog.com apparently got this from the Detroit Free Press:

So Much for the RWD Coupe from Subaru/Toyota

Like a schizophrenic love affair, the on-again, off-again Subaru/Toyota rear-wheel drive coupe is apparently off again. That morsel of sobering news comes via Detroit Free Press columnist Mark Phelan, who says that both automakers now admit that the project has been put on hold. The inexpensive 2+2 sports coupes had been the subject of much speculation and a seemingly infinite number of renderings, and in fact what looked to be an early prototype had been spotted last year.

Many enthusiasts were hoping that the car would signal Toyota's intent to return to the performance heritage of the AE86 Corolla, while Subaru stood to benefit from having a sportier-bodied, less expensive coupe than the WRX (although the car's RWD configuration was seemingly at odds with the company's all-wheel drive ethos).

In any case, the goal of a pair of 2011 sports coupes has evidently fallen by the wayside as yet another victim of the global financial crisis. Despite this development, Toyota maintains its small stake in Subaru, and the two automakers will continue joint production of the Camry in Subaru's Lafeyette, Indiana facility.

Toyobaru, we hardly knew ye.

I don't get it; it would have made the best logical replacement for the Scion TC when the time came. It could have even sold under the Scion TC nameplate, if not the Toyota Celica, Toyota Trueno, etc.

Otherwise, they (along with Nissan) are just handing the segment to the Hyundai GenCoupe, which is a great car, but IMO could stand to have some competition; these are practical 4-seaters at a reasonable price point, so it's not like it's some ridiculous segment we're talking about.
