It's not a little slow.  It's a lot slow.

Agreed. Over 6 seconds and you're entering pocket-rocket territory. I realize cars have gotten heavier, but a 300 hp coupe needs to get up and go a lot faster than late-90s/early-00s econo boxes with 200 hp I4s.
As I write, highly civilized human beings are flying overhead, trying to kill me.

Depending on price, that could be a good deal.

It's not a little slow.  It's a lot slow.  The Mustang GT they tested against the 370Z hit 60 mph in 4.9 with the 1 foot rollout.

Well, I expect the Mustang to be faster, torque and all.  But 5.5 should not be breaking a sweat in the Genesis.

Are all the test car engines really green or something?

The Mustang also had the very short 3.73 rear end and $285 a piece gumball tires.  IIRC, S197s with the 3.55 rear end and a green engine were in the 5.2-5.4 second range.  Given the fatter torque curve of the V8 over the smaller V6, I don't think 5.7 sounds "a lot" slow.  I would have thought the car could muster something in the 5.4-5.6 range (similar to what a 300 hp G35 used to run), though, so it is a little slower than I expected given its stats.

EDIT:  Looking back at old C&D tests, 5.5 would actually be a fair bit quicker than the old 298 hp 1st gen G35s, C&D clocked 5.9 seconds on the last one they tested, and it didn't weigh much more than the Genesis (maybe 60 lbs difference).  And the 300 hp 30th Anniversary 350Z C&D tested clocked 5.8s.

The cars are heavy... 1/4 mile times are more important

IF it's as fast as the 280HP G35 I will be more than impressed. That car is fucking fast.

If I read this article correctly, there's a white flag flying from the antenna of the Genesis coupe:

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/coupes/112_0905_hyundai_genesis_coupe_mustang_fighter_or_cut_price_nissan_370z/index.html

See the extended debate in the Genesis-vs-370Z-vs-Mustang GT thread opened by 565 regarding Motor Trend magazine's comparo of these three.
So many stairs...so little time...

This car is impressive but I've always seen it as more of cheaper G37s then a Mustang/370Z competitor

With the Camaro coming out though.. providing it does come out.. it may be harder for for the Genesis to compete.

Yeah, thats another thing I forgot to consider.  The V6 Camaro will be able to undercut it while offering similar performance while the V8 will simply blow it away.

Vinsanity

I suspect the V6 Genesis will have a handling advantage, and probably a refinement advantage over the V6 Camaro.

But the V6 Camaro is priced more in line with the 4-cylinder Genesis.

TBR

But isn't the Genesis significantly lighter? Plus it looks like the turbo-4 is under-rated.

I'd expect the Camaro V6 to perform essentially identically to the CTS.  The two weigh nearly the same and have the same powertrain.  In which case, we're looking at a 5.9-6.1 second 0-60 time.  Enough to put a hurt to the 4 cylinder Genesis, but it'll be a bit slower than the V6.
