Does anyone get the feeling its going to be a little more difficult to for the automotive hobbyist in the near future?

Hot Rod magazine saw 120 hp increase using Comp Cams Stage 3 camshaft for the 5.7L Hemi.  They used a FAST ECU to adjust redline, timing, and such, but that's huge for just cams.

Color me skeptical that 120 hp was all from a cam and a tune on a N/A powerplant. I've dropped in more than a few cams, and without the ability to supply substantially more fuel and flow substantially more air through the entire engine, a cam alone will provide only marginal gains, and you don't have to get too much larger than stock to actually hurt performance.

I've posted the article in here a couple times already.  I'm having a harder time finding it now that it's a couple years old, but I managed to dig it up.  It was actually 115 peak horsepower from a Stage 3 camshaft, long tube headers, and a FAST engine controller.

Baseline = 376 hp & 372 lb-ft at 5700 RPM
Result = 491 hp & 417 lb-ft at 6900 RPM

Very cool, and less mods than I suspected, but it's still quite aways from stock - huge headers, huge 4BBL throttle body, single-plane intake manifold, and no smog equipment.
