I think i have a bad bearing in one of the wheels

When the car's jacked up, there's noticeable play when i shake the wheel back and forth. But at the same time, I'm thinking the half shaft might not be completely in... damn it

The play is most likely a wheel bearing as you surmised.  Generally if the CV is splined into the bearing correctly it should be pulled fully seated by the lock nut when you run it in.  I used to have trouble however seating them in the transmission side, and if you fail to do that properly it will leak gear oil from the seal.

so I'm thinking about doing a 3L swap in the fall just for shits and giggles (and to put down more than 200hp at the wheels )

should I?

I've personally never heard of a 3L focus but I guess it's very possible...

No.  The 2.5L in the SVTC sounds absolutely heavenly (similar to an Alfa Romeo), and I'd gladly take a little less torque for that engine's soundtrack.  The 3L Duratecs don't sound nearly as nice.

And I don't think you really need anymore power.

A steady diet of government cheese will surely help with that.

that's true. Talking about which I really should get around to making a little sound clip of my exhaust.

but we're not talking about a little less torque. I hear stock SVT's put down 160something at the wheels. With the 3L + SVT cams + some other parts from the 2.5 motor, I can put down 200 at the wheels. We're talking a significant increase in power.
