My mom told me that some lady's eye exploded from using that.

I don't care about all that shit.  I'll be going to college to get an education at a cost to my parents.  I'm not going to fool around.

It really depends on how I'm driving and my mood.  I was going to start a similar poll on how you shift, but then I realized that I use a different grip for every shift, basically.

When I'm driving hard, I tend to lock my hands at 9 and 3 and only go hand over if I have to.  For more relaxed driving, I tend to lock one hand at 9 or 12 and spin from there.

I laugh at all you noobs who think wrapping your hands around the "rim" is the proper way to steer. I just put my palm flat in the center of the wheel and twist.

Palm it with my left hand, usually.

Depends on what I'm doing. Normal driving, slightly above 9-3 and sort of hand-over hand. Fast driving, especially autocross, then it's 8-4 and shuffle. Karting and formula cars, strictly 9-3 and only remove your hands to shift (if necessary)

S204STi

Combo of hand over hand and shuffle, more or less like ChrisV does it.  I also tend to drive with both hands at 9 and 3 almost all the time even in a straight line.

r0tor

use to be hand over hand... auto-x and karting have broken me of that for the most part.  Now its sort of a shuffle and fixed hand combo and always trying to keep the thumbs pointing up

Fixed hand most of the time, shuffle when I'm trying to turn fast and hand over hand when I'm going slow.

I had one of those on my '51 Mercury.  Without power steering, the wheel needed about three rotations to make a 90% turn :nutty:.  Changing lanes was only about 1 rotation.

You need 1 full rotation to change lanes?!?!   Smaller steering wheel might've helped.

Would have still taken the same amount of rotation, just would have done it slightly quicker. In order to change the amount of rotation, a different gear ratio in the steering box woudl have been necessary.

I may have exagerated .  It was more like a half turn.  However, for a full-size car with no power steering, the steering ratio was pretty high.  As well, the wheel was huge and a spinner came in handy.  Now I, usually, just stick my finger where the wheel and spoke connect if I have to rotate it more than a half turn.

It depends on the situation and what the moment calls for.  I use all three but at different times for vary different reasons so I can't and didn't vote because they all apply at different times for different reasons..  I prefer my wife to use the push pull method most often though.

We use about 1/2 of full rotation to do an emergency lane change.  Over-cross-over-recover.
