That's a shame. I was sitting at a light next to a G8 GT yesterday. I actually would consider buying one of those. Can't say the same for many other GM vehicles.

S204STi

I thought this was already well-known.  Saturn is going away too last I heard.

Well, out of the two line-ups only 2 cars (G8 and the Sky/Solstice duo) aren't already being sold by another brand.  It's too bad but it needs to be done.

No, Nick's right. It's Cuntbolt.

No shit, that's the G5.
Dumbest names ever. I can't remamaber them. This is exactly why Pontiac fails.

The G6 coupe and convertable are also unique.

I can't figure out why the G8 is selling so poorly?

68_427

The average American probably still has the idea that all Amurikahn cars are crap.

Or maybe they've shifted the prejudice to Aussie cars.

Wrong car for the current market. It starts at 28k. Plus they've done virtually no marketing for the car, most people are unaware it even exists it seems.

I'd guess the price is too high for people who normally buy Pontiacs.  Pontiac has a declassed image that may deter some buyers with a little more money.  At this point, people might be reluctant to buy a brand that it's pretty certain isn't going to be around much longer.  Probably a combination of those factors.

And thank you, GM, Congress and the United Auto Workers of America for dragging down another historic marque.

I always thought Pontiac and all of GM's marques could survive if they shrunk. For example, why does the G3 and G5 exist? Why did the Montana, Torrent, and to a lesser extent the Vibe exist?

G8 GXP at the autoshow was awesome, I'd likely buy one if it was in my budget.  I've always liked Pontiac, even with the Trojan-esque cladding era.  I really wanted (still do, sort of) a 2001ish Grand Prix GTP in high school.

It's a shame.

I once owned a Pontiac.  A 1973 Firebird.  Beautiful car, but didn't really drive like a sportscar.  The Camaro/Firebird kept moving further and further down the social scale, and that pretty much happened with all of Pontiac's models.  It's a shame that they let the image slip so much, from a genuine sporty car image to a cheap poser image.

Ages ago.  I had it from 1979-82.  It kept needing repairs, and the last straw was when the radiator was cracked and was leaking.  It was too expensive for me to fix at the time, and I got rid of it.  It had about 70,000 miles on it at the time.

My first car was a 1988 Bonneville.  It was huge, and like yours, not very sporty.  But I loved that car.  Mine was pretty trouble free, I sold it to a friend with over 200K miles, and he got another 2 or 3 years out of it.

The Buick-Pontiac-GMC dealers wanted a full line of products over their three brands. That includes economy cars, minivans, and a car-based SUV smaller than the Acadia/Enclave. Your local PBGMC dealer doesn't care if his lineup in redundant with Chevrolet's; Chevrolet is as much a competitor as Toyota to an individual dealer.

I desperately wanted a G8 GT until I drove one.  The new Fusion is a much better drive.
