Also, I'm trying to figure out how Flyin' Miata has been around for 25 years, when the Miata has only existed for 20. 0_o

It probably was Flyin' [insert chick car here] before the Miata was around.

I didn't think someone would get it so fast. :(

I bought a blue 1990 Mazda Miata with 64,000 original miles.  It still looks new.  Never been in an accident, never driven in the winter, and always driven gently.  I know all this to be true because it's my mother-in-law's.  She bought it new off the lot in April of 1990.  Now I just have to get it from Montreal to all the way out west.  The only thing is that it's an automatic, but that allows my wife to be able to drive it.  Oh and I picked it up for $5000, which she's in no hurry to see.  She just wants it to have a good home.

I wonder how much a 5.0L swap will cost.

An automatic?  I've never even seen an automatic MX-5.

Anyway, enjoy it in good health.

It's not a matter of being man enough, it's whether I have the bucks or not.  I'll definitely spring for the Voodoo II though.

In any case, instead of all of us pissing down our legs to figure it out, I emailed them.  Hopefully, they get back to me soon.

When my sister was shopping for her first car, her first choice was an automatic Miata. They apparently sell for quite a bit more than stickshift ones. At least, that was the case 4 years ago.

Also, my sister-in-law has an automatic NB Miata, and I suspect that autos are more common in the later model years.

Nice. Auto Miatas have a name that sounds very much like "eunuch". Coincidence? I think not.

I got it for $5K, and I looked on Autotrader and couldn't find one with the same mileage and with an auto for less then $8K.

Yes. They only call them Miata's over here. The car has 3 different names depending on the location.
MX-5 in all markets and is it's only name in Europe.
Eunos Roadster in it's home market.
MX-5 Miata over here.

Also, NA autos are more rare than NB ones. You couldn't even get an MX-5 with an auto when they first came out.

NA = first, NB = second, NC = third. The Miata chassis codes don't cause headaches like BMWs do with E8159876713.

Subscribe to the GoMiata catalog, it's great bathroom reading material and it might give you ideas.

I've wasted evenings on Youtube watching videos of V8 Miatas being driven. Somebody swapped a Jag V12 in their Miata, but that ended up running and sounding like complete ass.

My brother-in-law might have a lead on a cheap LS1 and a T56 transmission.  If I can get them relatively cheap, then that might be the way to go.

The Miata people rock.  If I were a hairdresser, they would most likely be my best friends.  When I woke up this morning, I already had an email back from the folks at Flyin' Miata.

That happened to me all the time with the S2000, but I never really encountered many enthusiast type Miata drivers during the short time that I had one.

You may have crank snout and oil pump gear issues.

I'm not a Miata guy, but I've heard of these issues.

The crank snout is a problem on early 1.6L Miatas. The oil pump gears aparently shatter when you add boost. I can't give you anymore information than that.
