Saleen Mustang jumps over pool

On Sunday night just after 10 p.m. a 16-year-old boy lost control of his father's SN-95 Saleen Mustang crashing it through a brick wall, jumping over a pool and landing in a living room.  The boy had no license and was driving over 85 mph when he hit the wall jumping over the pool, a feat which is somewhat amazing if you ask me.  The family who lived at the house was home but nobody was injured, the boy who lived in the neighborhood was conscious and coherent as the fire department extracted him from the vehicle, he sustained several injuries including a broken leg.

This crash reminds me of the famous 14-year-old boy who started his fathers Eleanor GT500 and drove it through the garage with family and friends looking on.  More proof that teenagers and cars don't mix.  Photos of the accident scene are below.

I don't understand... even if it was parked in gear he would've had to push the clutch while turning it on... unless he just let go of the clutch... in which case that car has a shitload of torque to accelerate that fast and not stall with just popping the clutch with no gas!

Cars fast-idle during cold start, which might have gotten it just into the bottom of the torque curve.

That's true... Though if that kid had done it in say... a Civic, none of this would've happened.

I don't think a car either in N or in gear without gas can reach 85mph... and if that street was down hill, then that house is in a really dangerous location.

Very true.

When my son was about 14, I came home early one day and found him driving my Alfa Spider back and forth in the driveway.  It didn't have plates and was parked in the garage with the key in the ignition waiting for me to make it, once again, roadworthy.  I was a bit surprised, though not as much as he was, and when I asked him -- "What the hell do you think you're doing?" he blurted out "Well, you shouldn't leave the key in it.  It's too much of a temptation".  I really didn't know how to respond to that; but I never caught him doing it again.
