Good point.

Do you really want something that has leather with an animal that has claws?

Have you given any thought to...a little newer E46 3 Series sedan?
I heard the E46 rear subframes were subcontracted out to a rice paper component manufacturer... plus I would be sad to get an auto E46. I guess I'll try those out too but I'd rather the next car have no kinds of sporty aspirations

I have 2 dachshunds, they're no threat to any leather.

My 120-pound mix Lab likes cloth just fine, and she's never had a chance to sit in a car with leather, but that thought scares me a little.

Non-sporty...Infiniti I30/35?
2. 1995 Saturn SL2 5-speed, 126,500 miles. 5,000 miles in two and a half months. That works out to 24,000 miles per year if I can keep up the pace.

No sporting pretensions whatsoever.

Yeah, I think I'd go with a 2nd gen GS or a W210 E430.

Small, indoor dogs would have their paws clipped so it shouldn't be any issue. I certainly can't imagine having one of our labs on the interior of a car, but if a little dog like a dachshund goes crazy it isn't like he/she can do much damage.

I35 shows promise... cheap too. That rear suspension though, yeech...

Less temptation for expensive mods + "scary" driving as my girl puts it. I'm much more relaxed in my mom and to a lesser degree my dad's car. There are plenty of cheap fun cars... right now I could get a nice '95 325iS for $3K... full M3 suspension, clean body, etc etc. But I will wait until I'm settled and me and my girl are in a place where we can have our own cars and driveway. By then I'm sure G35s, E46 M3s and all the cars I REALLY want will be dirt cheap, and I can get one of those rather than buy another 15 year old crapshoot

Not to mention, good handling cars here are a complete waste...

Grid road system, and some of the worst roads ever... they're repaving them now, but still, 450/300# springs on these roads is hell. I feel dumb for having done this for so long.

BimmerM3

There are compromises between Town Cars and stupidly stiff springs ya know, and many BMWs would fit that bill just fine. That said, if you're really looking for no sporting intentions what so ever, I wouldn't be looking at E39s. Sure, they're not Lotus Elises, but I have a hard time saying that they have no sporting intentions at all.

I still want to enjoy driving... but I would rather the E39, which is roomier, more comfortable (I'm still blown away by its suspension) and more refined than the E46. Plus I could get it with the V8 which would at least make it a little fun with the auto.

Surprisingly different driving experiences. A little insulation & electroluminescent gauging go a long way

the Teuton

That, and it isn't like you don't have experience fixing them.  You know everything about the car.

I might check out the E46. A 328i would be in my price range. Argh automatic E46s are such chick cars though. The E39 at least has that 3rd world country government official feel.

CL, GS, SC or I35. Maybe a 540iA but prob not, as soon as I can get some decent $$$ for this car...

the Teuton

You're young and have a girlfriend and a dog.  That means a two-door is possible.  You seem to have a knack for old, high maintenance cars.  If you have the money to seek other routes, go for it.

Therefore, CL.  Either that, or a G coupe.

I am lukewarm to the CL because of its awful tranny problems. Plus even with the change to the 5 speed the ratios are still pretty shitty. The pre-98 SCs are the same deal. G's (sedans and esp coupes) are too expensive.

the Teuton

Oh, that's right...

Okay, get the Infiniti.  You don't need rubbish reliability, and it looks classy enough.  I35, it is!
