The commuter train in Salt Lake City caught a bunch of flak, but it was finished before the olympics.

It's STILL used so much that they're expanding the lines: there were only 2, one running north/south (through much of the valley) and one running from downtown west to the university area. Everyone parks, rides the train to downtown or university, then rides buses from there.

Still- the article writer forgets that Europe is what, the size 3-4 states?
Germany is the size of Montana, with 80million people.  Public transportation obviously works.

I do like the comments: ban private swimming pools and jets- anything for an individual and not the public...
