Future Chrysler, Fiat and Alfa Romeo models revealed


Now that Chrysler has officially inked a strategic alliance with Fiat, the Michigan automaker?s future lineup is starting to come into focus. We were already privy to the fact that vehicles like the Fiat 500 and Panda were headed our way, but a new report seems to outline all the new vehicles Chrysler-Fiat has planned.

Fiat?s C-EVO platform will see extensive use in the U.S., underpinning the next generations of the Dodge Journey and Caliber, Chrysler Sebring and Jeep Liberty. Additionally, the C-EVO platform will be used as the basis for an Alfa Romeo-badged SUV. Of note, IHS Global Insight?s production list makes no mention of the Dodge Avenger, perhaps indicating it will eventually be phased out.

A second Alfa SUV ? dubbed the GTX ? will be spawned from the Jeep Grand Cherokee?s WL platform in July 2011. The GTX will be built at the Grand Cherokee?s Jefferson North plant but will be sold globally. Alfa is targeting 30,000 annual sales for the GTX.

The Dodge Hornet will finally see the light of day in 2011, being built on Fiat?s 199 platform. Chrysler?s tie-up with Fiat will cancel previous plans to build the Hornet on a Nissan-supplied platform. The Alfa Romeo MiTo will join the Hornet on Fiat?s 199 platform and will also be built at Chrysler?s Belvidere Assembly Plant in 2011.

As previously reported, the Fiat 500 and Jeep Panda will be built at Chrysler?s Toluca, Mexico plant and should be in dealerships by Jul 2011.

Did you see the Panda 4x4 test? It held it's own with cars such as the Range Rover. They'll have to fit bigger engine though, the only option is the 1.3L Diesel.

I honestly can't wait to see what the mindless drones at Consumer Reports will say about Alfa's and Fiat. Probably that they're unreliable trash and everyone should be driving reliable Toyotas.

They have roots on one another, but they are not mechanically the same. The Ka shares a lot in common with the 500 and Panda. However, it shares more with the 500.

The Grand Cherokee is already unibody, is it not (or at least it was at one point), so a unibody Liberty isn't too much of a stretch.  They still have the Wrangler for serious offroaders.

I am looking forward to seeing the MiTo in the flesh.

I think you're right about the Liberty, it's just been a while since I've been under one so I'm not totally sure.
