Astro is out, excepting a pinch. I decided that I can't deal with the super tallness of it, especially with a lift. The guy seemed pretty honest, though, and the van was in pretty great shape. I'd buy that one if I were to buy one at all.

I dunno, am I really a van man? I hope I fit in an Explorer, because those are cheap and more to my taste, I think.

YES!!! Thank you, Adam! I don't know why I didn't think of that forum.

Looks like I will be able to fit in the back of an Explorer. Rock and roll and such things. :ohyeah:

I emailed about a bunch of Explorers, about presence of 4WD and mileage, mostly. Those seem like the kind of things you would put in the ad, but no one seems to...

And if you get one, there's a ton of great information at that forum.  It was a great resource when I had my Ranger.

Probably the same transmission that was in my Ranger ('91 4.0 4x4).  Typical truck transmission, but I'd still rather have a manual tranny in a smaller truck or SUV.

It can't be much different than the one in my Ranger, which sucks, but it's better than what is bound to be a laggy automatic.

I've no issues either.  They aren't Honda smooth, or snick-snick close, but you'll never miss a gear.

The 'seating position/pedal placement/clutch action' mix in that gen is just horrid. My Yota's was infinitely better.

In fact I taught someone how to drive stick on both those cars, and she wholeheartedly agreed, so it wasn't just me liking what I was used to.

Edit: I just remembered that I've driven that gen Ranger as well, and it was also a painful experience. Also the '92 F150, whose brake pedal was absurdly high in relation to the throttle (not precisely sure on the model year, I think '92 is right).

I saw it today. Seems like a decent truck, but it needs brakes, tires, some suspension clunks fixed, and the tach fixed. Fewer miles than my truck. I liked it better than the other one (green one) with only 100 kmiles...

Other than brakes and tires it seems pretty drivable.

I worry that the brakes and tires are an indicator of how well it was taken care of. I'm pretty much really into the manual. I think it could do with some adjustment and a fluid bleed. Oh, and the ABS light was on (I couldn't really test the ABS). I would be down with it if the mechanic who will look at it (again, too many 'puters and wires for me to say anything intelligent) says it's cool.

The other one I saw today, the green 100 kmile one, also had a brake thing (pulsing), a suspension thing (squeeking), and mediocre tires. It also had some more cosmetic wear, like the console, steering wheel, and grill paint. And it had a broken AC (not just the fluid stuff). Then, I forgot to test the AC in the manual Explorer...

Of course, I'll be lifting it a couple of inches and putting A/T tires on it, so those are just care indicators and bargaining tools. And I do fit in the back, especially if the front seats are tilted forward.

But srsly, the manual one looks really nice. It's the one I'd go for.

Also, how much could you sell the Ranger for? Would you be making a profit off of this?

A profit? Hehe, no way. The Ranger, without any options, including AC, ain't worth more than $3k. I paid $2800 for it, and that was 15 kmiles ago. But, with the issues with the Explorer there, I could probably get it for $3500 or less. The brakes are pretty bad, the front tires are dangerously bald, and the ABS light is on.  :nono:
