If I had to take a celebrity, and I somehow couldn't have sex with them, I'd still take a woman. At least have something to look at...

You know who I'd take with me?

I'll save the country from 10 days worth of Obama world.  Talk about taking one for the team eh?

Plus I could do 170mph and never get a ticket.

Nah, them racist coppers will still give you a ticket for being with a black man.

10 days to go coast to coast and back again?  Fuck that Payman.  It takes 5 days of 12 hour days to go from Montreal to Kelowna.

Anyway, down to business.

I'm totally in agreement that 10 days isn't nearly enough to do a proper coast-to-coast round trip by car. I even plotted out my route:

Day 1: NYC to Detroit: 10 hours
Day 2: Detroit to Omaha: 11 hours
Day 3: Omaha to Denver: 7.5 hours
Day 4: Denver to SLC: 7.5 hours
Day 5: SLC to San Francisco: 10.5 hours (>10 hours hauling ass on US-50)
Day 6: San Francisco to San Diego: 10.5 hours via PCH
Day 7: San Diego to Phoenix: 5.5 hours
Day 8: Phoenix to San Antonio: 13 hours (12 hours hauling ass on I-10)
Day 9: San Antonio to New Orleans: 8.25 hours
Day 10: New Orleans to Charlotte: 11 hours
Day 11: Charlotte to NYC: 10.5 hours

If I'm not going to stop and smell the flowers, then I want something I can haul ass in. 2003 Mercedes CL55 AMG. Not having any time for activities should provide me plenty of money to stay in 4- and 5-star hotels along the way. Co-driver would be Vicki Butler-Henderson.

Maybe I should expand on the premise so you guys stick to the set parameters: you live in NY, you have a meeting in LA, you have to be back in 10 days, boss gives you $50K for any car plus expenses. You have to take a celebrity because, oh I don't know, they're writing their memoires or something and need to do a road trip for filler in their book.

Now... GO!

I'll definitely be buying a big '60s American convertible - give me a '64 Eldorado or Thunderbird. And no driving companion, please - they'll just talk over the lovely noises of the engine.

How long is the drive from Sydney to Perth? I'd love to do that road trip.

Ooh, just under 4000km, I believe. Do keep in mind that you'd have to cross this:

I want to do the Great Ocean Road:

Ohhhh yes! Does that highway follow the south coast around the Great Bight? I bet good stretches of it are traffic free.

I think it varies - you hear of people not seeing a single car for hours, but others who get stuck behind Bruce and his caravan.

If those are the new rules, then I have to remember I will be sitting in those seats for 10 days of around 10 hours every day.

Oh my god, THAT voice all day long???? I'd have to jam something in there to muffle the agony.

I can think of something to jam in there.

$33.5k!

Actually, that would be a marvellous car to take along.

Just remember people that you will be spending roughly 100 hours in the seat in a 10 day period.  You want comfy seats.
