Based upon the VW Gol, this car will compete with other compact/subcompact ute/pickups such as the Fiat Strada and Chevy Montana.

I think it looks nice for being a Gol with a bed.

That interior looks like it came straight out of an Aveo.  Not good.

You do realize that the Gol (not Golf) is a budget car for South America? It competes with the Dacia/Renault Logan and other b-segments.

Also, did you know that there is a Dacia Logan Pickup?

I agree a cheap car like this is needed in markets like South America, what I don't understand is why this market is still being covered under the VW brand. This is what Skoda was bought for. Cars like these simply cheapen the brand.

It is sold in markets like India and China. Why it is not a world wide brand is beyond me. VW can not compete with KIA and Co. Skoda just might be able to compete on price.

They're getting good reviews, but are a bit invisible at the moment. A few more years to build the brand is probably needed. We've just received the Superb to add to the Roomster and Octavia, so it's still quite a small range.

It might be a world brand but it aint exactly well known like VW is.  Guess it would be a lot of investment to change that.  Besides, VW sell commercial vehicles, which this is

Dacia showed that even with an investment the size of an automobile, people will buy anything from anyone as long as the price is right. They often can not afford to worry about prestige.

You could see it that way, but I'm sure the brand equity of Volkswagen is higher than that of Skoda in South America (or anywhere, really) and the badge will help to sell the car.

For the record, I think it's kind of cool looking.  I'd never buy one (although I wouldn't mind something like the CrossFox), but I think it's kind of cool.
