Digital instruments can be washed out by sunlight, can't they?

Its never happened on the Civic for me.

If implemented correctly, washout in sunlight can be almost completely eliminated.  Keep in mind that practically all aircraft, including fighter jets with a full clear canopy over the cockpit, use digital displays these days.

Electroluminescent displays seem to be resistant to that, I thought..  But I haven't tried one with polarized sunglasses and the sun shining down on them yet either, so take that with a grain of salt.

I like gauges better.... 3, 5, 8, if you're just glancing down they all kind of look the same. With a gauge you don't have to read to know you're way over the speed limit.

I do think a central tach is a must though.

I rarely look at the speedo, and when I do, it's to get an actual speed. Digital speedos have been easy for me to use in every car I've had that's had them. But I love the analog tach, with the sweep visible in the lower peripheral vision (though again, after you've driven a car for a while you know the rpm by sound and don't look at the tach to shift anyhow...)
Like a fine Detroit wine, this vehicle has aged to budgetary perfection...

Actually, I can understand having the digital speedometer and an analog tach. I'd prefer that layout, so long as the speedo was accurate.

Agreed.  I love the interior.  Then again, I'm a sucker for gimmicky interiors.  I love the RX-8 interior, but like the S2000's even more.

I had issues when I drove the 5 series with that; if I wanted to look at iDrive, I couldn't, because my sunglasses would make the screen go blank.

I often tip my shades up to look at the dash clock.

I've never had to do that.

I wear my sunglasses a lot more than the average person (I'd imagine), so if the gauges go blank, then it's going to be a big problem for me.

I've gotten in the habit of tilting my head up slightly to see under my sun glasses to see my radio in my car.  Without my sunglasses on, I now look like a moron checking the time or radio station.

I'm frakked in that case because my shades are prescription, so I can't see a thing past my arm if I take them off.  I also end up looking like a real douche when I walk into the store and don't bother switching back to my normal glasses, walking around inside with my sunglasses on and all that.

LCD displays are generally polarized.  If your polarized sunglasses do not have the same polarization as the display, it will blank out (just as two polarized lenses held one behind the other will become opaque if you rotate them relative to each other).  Depending on how badly it's blanked out, tilting your head one way or the other will help.

Electroluminescents are not LCD.  My gauges are unaffected by sunglasses, though the LCD display for the radio will black out if I tilt my head to the right far enough.

The motor sounds amazing, all that power...wicked high RPM's. This thing will kick some serious ass.

Also I agree that the 355 is awesome, I just saw one on the local craigslist for 50 g's, one owner all records, manual transmission. For the next 2 hours i was looking at every available option to put that car in my garage.

Contacts. They are amazing.

Polarized sunglasses. They have nothing to do with contacts.

Don't have that problem in the RX-8.  Also, my friends 3er the clock (LCD) blacks-out....
