A question about filling up the Suburban...why does it stop before it's done?

BENZ BOY15

I have a question that maybe you can answer. The Suburban has a pretty large gas tank, like 26 gallons or so. Anyway, when we're filling it up and put the little blocker on so you don't have to hold it for 20 minutes.....it keeps stopping. Even if the tank is only 1/4 full, it'll stop filling up. It even does it when you're manually filling the gas tank, it's like the sensor is saying it's full....even though it's not.

How do you fix it?

The vehicle doesn't tell the fuel pump to shut off, the pump handle has a mechanism that shuts the fuel off when it detects that the tank is full.  Sometimes just concentrated gasoline vapor is enough to trip the pump if it's especially sensitive.  Sounds like the problem was with the gas pump you were at.

Depending on price, that could be a good deal.

Raza

I had one of those pumps that would stop and stop and stop.  It was when I was filling up on my way to work (and I was already running late).  So fucking annoying.

You probably have the nozzle stuffed too far in.

Bingo. Pull the nozzle out a bit and try again. Then try another pump. If two pumps at different gas stations do the same thing at all nozzle depth positions, it's somehow your truck.

Then again, maybe sporty is on to something...

It could also be some Cali liberal backlash against consumption. Take a Prius, and I bet they will give u an extra tank of gas on the taxpayer's dime
